Re: Sometimes scientists are just fucking stupid.
Who the hell said viruses are unchanging?
"It's just a bad idea for scientists to turn a lethal virus into a lethal and highly contagious virus. And it's a second bad idea for them to publish how they did it so others can copy it," Dr. Thomas Inglesby, the director and CEO of the Center for Biosecurity at the University of Pittsburgh, told NPR"
Kinda looks like im not the only one that thinks its a bad idea.

Re: Sometimes scientists are just fucking stupid.
You said that you could almost guarantee that this particular type of mutation would never happen. I think that's a foolish assertion. Especially given the fact that you are neither a virologist or a geneticist.
As to your quote from one guy opposed, there are at least that many people in the virology field that have the opposite opinion. So there? Or what was your point in offering a differing opinion? To show that there is a differing opinion? Thanks I guess. But it proves nothing and lends zero credence to you ridiculous statement that these scientists are fucking stupid.

Well let me put it this way. You said "But go on thinking that viruses are unchanging and that scientists trying to head them off at the pass are "fucking stupid."
First i never said viruses dont mutate. This fails the common sense rule. I dont climb under a car and cause a jack to fail so i can develope a better jack.

Re: Sometimes scientists are just fucking stupid.
No, but if you want to develop a better jack you absolutely test existing and new designs to the point of failure. You test it with artificial loads, and then you test it with actual real-world loads (real cars) and in real-world situations (every day drivers), to see when/if they fail. But since you're testing, you make sure not to let any marines climb under the car during the test.
I don't know if creating this virus in a lab was a good idea of a stupid one. There are certainly dangers. It hadn't occurred to me that this might be a purposeful weaponization or anything else nefarious, but I suppose it's possible.

Re: Sometimes scientists are just fucking stupid.
Usually, the goal isn't really to find a "cure", per se... but to actually understand HOW they mutate, and WHY, so that way they can better understand the virus - and thus create a cure. Or that's what I think they are trying to do.
That's my guess at least.
