Oh our beloved schools :/ They know not what they do

You know - with all of the problems that the country faces and will continue to face over the next several decades, one can only blame ourselves for allowing a mentality like this to flourish and become the norm (and other asinine decisions that our publicly funded and appointed educators have foisted on us for decades).

7-Year-Old Accused Of Possible Sexual Harassment For Kicking Boy In Groin « CBS Boston
BOSTON (CBS) – A 7-year-old boy is being investigated by his South Boston elementary school for possible sexual harassment after kicking another boy in the crotch. The first grader’s mother, Tasha Lynch, says she was shocked by the school’s decision.

“He’s 7 years old. He doesn’t know anything about sexual harassment,” she said.

Lynch’s son, Mark Curran, said the boy that he kicked had been bullying him on the school bus ride home from Tynan Elementary last week.

All jokes about the names of the persons in the story aside....
A Gastonia mother says her son was suspended for calling a teacher "cute.”

Chiquita Lockett said her 9-year-old son, Emanyea, spent the last two days at home.

Lockett said the principal of Brookside Elementary called her Wednesday to say the incident was a form of “sexual harassment.”

Then we sit back and wonder why our politicians are so stupid that they can barely read the bills that they pass, nevermind comprehend them in context of the larger pictures of the Constitution and Case Law/Precedent. To say nothing of the level of uselessness that they almost uniformly display with a healthy attitude of "someone else has responsibility for that" or "what's in it for me".

When I confronted my Bully in the 9th grade. I was threatend with assault charges. Thing is when telling the teachers about the bullying going on thier responses were always, "Why don't you just kick his ass?"

Edit to add a recent event: My 5 year old son was totally heartbroken when his teacher sent him home with a note.

Backstory is, if your kid is not behaving properly they are sent home with a note to the parents informing them of such bad behavior. Good behavior is rewarded with a smiley face on his daily report.

My son was very proud of his unbroken record of 15 consecutive days of on his report, including this same day... he was confused and devastated, thinking he had done something wrong, but didn't know what it was..

The note said, and I quote: "Was running around classroom pretending to shoot a gun"

So instead of explaining to him that that was not allowed; at the time he was doing this horrible thing; they wait till days end and add a note to his folder.

It hurt me deeply to listen to my young son crying, and teling me that he hates school because it's too hard... this was before I read the note.

In my day the teacher would pull you aside and say "STOP THAT", and it was over.

I explained to him that he had not done anything terribly wrong, and that he was not to pretend to shoot guns in school anymore, which he understood, and doesn't do it anymore.

Now he just pretends to have Darth Vaders Light Saber.... MY Boy!

I'll worry about kids and sexual harassment when the very words are included in their vocabulary.

I just go through school I'd Im outside of Seattle and I watched one of my teachers and a student straight up start wrestling in the middle of class one day out of the blue. Nothing came of it. Some people just need to cool down and stop thinking everything is so crazy. Getting picked on? Clobber the bully or dont let him get to ya. I got picked on and I'm not big, I didn't take their shit and I havent had a single problem to date!

Re: Oh our beloved schools :/ They know not what they do

Its getting kind of ridiculous how sensitive people are to this shit these days. Iv heard a story (might have been on these very forums years ago) that there was a parent who wanted to keep violence out of her household and she had a young son who never got to see any kind of violence on TV at all, not even cartoonish, no toys that could look like a weapon, no meat, no nothing. Then one day she found out her son was biting his sandwiches into gun shapes so he could shoot people.

This shit happens no matter how much you try and prevent it. Kids call adults pretty/cute/handsome all the time they don't have the huge vocabulary that adults have to complement someone so they go with what they hear adults call them. Kids also get in fights you know you cant as an adult and you have more self control. As a child its rational that the best way to hurt the other guy is to actually hurt him.

Cajun you just need to dress you kid up so hes fucking adorable (people should be saying this when they see him) parade him in front of the teachers and if any of them complement him give them a note saying "stop sexually harassing my son you pedophile" then ask them if they want to change the school policy on complement.

I heard this on the radio yesterday and got the itch. You know, the one that can only be scratched upon the throat of a imbecile in a shaking motion ...

That aside, I only posted here to let Cajun know that even i'm proud of his boy for pretending to have DARTH VADER's light saber. He deserves a cookie!

Re: Oh our beloved schools :/ They know not what they do

So fun story time, when I was a senior in highschool, I was outside in my physics class doing an experiment. I almost got run over by a chick going way too fast in a parking lot. So, I flip the double bird. The car turns back around. The boyfriend steps out and says he's going to beat me up. Keep in mind that I just got back from camp where I got to the point where I could bench press/squat/run quite a lot. I had also spent the summer playing full contact sports, wrestling, and learning some jujitsu. So, I said, "Bring it, kid." At this point, I get into a combat stance. At the same time, my teacher walks over as he heard everything that's going on. He ends up giving the boyfriend a suspension. He tells me, "You should really know better being so smart." Thus ended my slap on the wrist. It still makes me chuckle to this day.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
