Re: NBA 2011-2012
i agree but the players union is way too stubborn for that. they'll never agree to keeping a college frosh or soph out of the draft.
anyway did you guys know there's another option? only one player has ever done this but it's allowed and legal:
you can go straight to nba dleague out of high school, then get submitted for the draft the following year. if i were brandon jennings when he had to make his decision (or jeremy tyler for that matter) i would have loved to stay in the states, still get nba-level training, then get into the draft after team scouts have already seen youvicissitudes [ben]...cs:go

D-League does not have as good of coaching as the better Euro teams. It also pays exponentially less. You can already go straight to Euro after high school, but not a lot of players have done that because you get less exposure there than at a premier college.

I bet it starts happening more, especially with inner city kids that need the money. If you have talent the NBA will find you. Look at guys from the Congo, etc. Great high school player, go to Europe for one year, make half a million to a million dollars, then get drafted. What is the downside? You don't get 30 or so hours of college credits? I am sure they will lose sleep over that.

Personally I liked the suggestion made on a sports show here, have it so players get a higher rookie salary the longer they are in college, as well as something like being able to opt-out of the contract a year earlier (or it expires a year earlier etc.) if you stay all four years.
A great talent can still go leave in high school, or after a year or two in college, but you'll also (hopefully) convince some of those guys that are good, but not great, or worse to stay in college longer and learn more before making the jump. I'd argue you could do the same with euro/international stars (basically they start on the same scale as High school players).

Orly?
A Terry Porter elbow knocked out Nowitzki’s front tooth during the fourth quarter, but Dirk returned after only 33 seconds to make sure the Mavs avoided the sweep.
