Damn, you fucks must really not give a shit about the NBA. I have over half the posts in this thread and my team is 3-11 (or is it 3-12? Whatever). I'm still watching every Hornets game and the occasional T'wolf, Heat, Clipper, Kings, and Pacers games.

LOL. Buncha primadonas and their owners. Somebody should have knocked them down a peg or three for the decades long penchant for stupidity in professional sports marketing, ticketing, merchandising, and televising.
But ah well....I'm sure there'll be another opportunity in the future. Greed guarantees it.

Re: NBA 2011-2012
I'm not willing to claim, in defense of either side, that one or the other was not being greedy or dumb in equal parts. There's something deeply ... galling ... to see a collection of some of the wealthiest people quibble over money like chickens over corn. I have no sympathy for them.

Where did i say "I wouldn't mind if my pay was cut 10%" ? Where did I say they wouldn't mind? I didn't say either of those things. Why ask that question? It's not relevant.
Let's not pretend that we're talking about people relying on that 10% to make ends meet shall we? Once we get past the fact that the 10% likely means the difference to them of an extra car (that they can't drive around on account of the 3-4 other cars) or an extra house that they'll spend a total of a couples weeks in a year then we can have an honest discussion about the significance of that 10%.
But with that said and just for the sake of argument.....if my employer said "Alundil, you're a great employee and I want to keep you in the company but the company is having some financial difficulties at the moment and I'll need to reduce your salary by 10%." I have a couple options on how to respond.
(Reality inbound)
I love the job and have no desire to leave the company and I'll stick with them through the tough times and it'll be rainbows and sunshine on the other side.
I need the job and can't easily find another job due to the economy or the specialized nature of what I do so I'll tough it out in the hopes that things get better.
I hate the job, why the hell am I doing this in the first place and now you want to pay me less to do this shit? Hell no I am out of here.
Boss, I know you're loaded and are just a retard with money so screw your 10% cut and pay me what I demand. (Boss promptly fires me).
In real life, pay cuts happen. They suck. No one likes them. But they happen. Whether the boss is a genius or an idiot is irrelevant. Employees can either choose to take the pay cut or leave. If they choose to stay but fight the pay cut, they will most likely lose their jobs through termination or layoff. It happens. All. The. Time. Complaining about it doesn't change that fact. Nor does complaining about it make it more palatable. There are only a few "employment types" that can continually see increases (almost guaranteed) through corporate downturns and failing business. Those are Union backed employment types. Great for the union bosses and great for the union members (until they price themselves out of the market).
I have no sympathy for it.Last edited by Alundil; 01-20-12 at 08:20 AM.

Sorry that the skill you worked on and developed is lower on the supply-demand curve than professional athletes.
Farmers, teachers, law enforcement, and medical care professionals are probably the most important for our society but they get paid a hill of beans (doctors are an exception, I guess). There are a lot of people to fill these jobs, otherwise they would be paid more.
Elite level athletes are entertainers with an incredibly rare skillset and/or body. People enjoy watching them so much, they are willing to pay lots of money. There aren't many people with the ability to play at the professional level, so the pay is spread across just a few people.
Still, just because someone makes more money than me, doesn't mean they deserve to get screwed by incompetent management. Some/most players are dumb with their money, but so what? They still earned it.
