I'm the same way, but on a smaller scale. As long as everything *I* use has space and place, i'm good. Now, on the other hand, I will not ... EVER, cook in a dirty kitchen unless i'm cleaning it at the same time. This has caused me no end to roommate grief and healthy eating habit issues. If I don't dirty it, i'm damn well not cleaning it (unless asked politely otherwise). If i'm damn well not cleaning it, i'm not cooking in that kitchen. Let's just say i've put on about 40lbs of fast food since I moved last march with the new roommate. I rediscovered it all after having a very tiny kitchen to myself for six months and loving it. Until I move in with a significant other or get my own place again I guess those days are gone.

I just say "I like cookies!" and leave it at that.~

I cook outside, then go from grill to belly, far less dishes that way.
But when I do go crazy and cook, I have to have a clean kitchen, space is very important. When I cook it is an entire meal(that feeds me for 3 days) and I get all my dishes going with this and that spread across my counter.

I used to cook on the grill twice a week. Grilled meat and veggies and whatever else suited the mood of the moment, tailored for dinner for the week. I cannot grill where I'm at now on the risk of a huge fine thanks to the local fire marshal (aka smokin' asshole.) So now I fast food and wallow in my fat-filled misery.
