pills ?
wasnt really sure how else to put a title. but my stress levels lately been thru the roof so after i dunno 3+ years. thinking bout going to a doctor and maybe get something .
i wish i could just give myself and Rx for something 100 proof. but thats neither an option or cost effective. tried to take up tobacco but not cost effective and only burns my lungs. most people think i should go the ... "herbal route ".
but i've gone 33 years without doing any illegal substances dont wanna start now. also that medical stuff costs a hell of alota money (brother is on it) so i'm thinking my only choice is gonna be better living thru chemistry
so whats something good that wont make one all sluggish and dead like but relive the stress

Re: pills ?
Before I begin I want to mention that I my major is neuropsychology (specifically systems-neuroscience) and I have been TAing 8 different undergrad neuroscience sections for four years including Psychopharmacology.
In most cases of psychological disturbance of some sort, a combination of medication and cognitive therapy is usually helpful. In less extreme cases a cognitive therapy or in more extreme cases drugs and other therapies. For example in extreme stress conditions a drug may be used for a while or periodically to help get balanced enough for other therapies to be effective. Other disorders only respond to drugs (schizophrenics are either mild enough to self manage or have to take a medication, bipolar disorder responds mostly to medication, etc.).
Also consider causes of stress: environmental as well as biological (extrinsic vs intrinsic). What in your context is causing stress, can it be removed? Some thyroid problems create anxiety and stress and can only be managed with medication in some cases. Diet and fitness level can also influence stress. basically the context gives you stressors, and your biology can factor in as well.
If your stress is real bad, and seeing a cognitive, behavioral or otherwise counselor/therapist it might be time to consider a regimen of drugs combined with other therapies. Just be careful picking psychiatrists, some doctors do bend to profitable product pushing even to the point of keeping people on drugs when they should ween them off of them.
Good luck man, watch out, stress can crash you and cause a depression and a host of physical ailments too.

Yeah, people who dropped out of middle school tend to pick up trades instead of educations. I did not go back to school until I was 26, and now unfortunately my work history is mostly culinary so it makes it hard to get other jobs ... outside of academia where I now excel.

Re: pills ?
And sorry to hear about your situation, that is very stressful I am sure. If you are concerned neough to ask us, and not already seeing a shrink, I would see a shrink. Just check around for one. If you are already seeing a shrink, it might time to ask them about drugs.
I have been doing Karate for 26 years, so when I am stressed out I do drills, sometimes I run. It helps keep me balanced. So keep in mind if you have not asked a doc already they might have some good not drug recommendations.
