Roommate

Found out my roommate for the Fall. A friend quickly facebook stalked him...he's uber christian, in a frat full of douchewads, likes Rush Limbaugh, and on top of it is quite racist. My friend and I joked about trolling him, but the plan is to try for a single or at the least change roommates.

He's the "hates everyone who isn't his type of christian" christian; uber probably wasn't the best word, but I wasn't sure what else to say; no idea if he's fundie but... He's also said some pretty damn racist and derogatory stuff about black people. Anyone who actually likes Rush, likely also likes modern politicians. As for the fraternity thing, the greek orgs have a well-deserved and sullied reputation, it surprised me since all of the people I had met from other universities who were greek were actually great people to know. Oh, and he likes to pop his collars...deal breaker.

Regardless, the necessity for a single is slightly to avoid huge arguments. The main reason though is my depression; yeah, I'm not in favor of having one of my days where I spend all day in bed crying for no reason since my depression is largely chemical with another person there. That would be...how you say? Embarrassing. That, and sharing a room with someone in general? Not desirable. Getting an apartment is unfortunately not an option due to my disabilities, so a dorm room is needed.

That blows.

My first roommate was a Baptist who liked to pretend that he was all holier than thou. Would occasionally read the bible, slept around, had a fake ID and would return to the dorm shithammered every night, and yet I was constantly told I was going to hell because I believed in Darwinism, it was quite hilarious.

Since he was short I printed about 50 Darwin fish logos with the legs, and taped them up all around the room and ceiling, it was fun watching him freak out over it.

well i might be wrong but what i've gatherd from around the forums you / your family is loaded so why not get an off campus apt? buuut you can make him want to move out download a buncha lady gaga music find a couple old wham posters and other gay like stuff give him a coy wink every now and then and he will run for the hills .......or try to save your soul

It would actually be cheaper to be off campus, but the problem would be that we're (as in myself and my psychiatrists) still aren't sure I'm stable on my meds. Add to that that if I have an episode, I'm going to be going on medical leave for how knows long. All of the houses/apartments around here that are close to campus have year long contracts (college town) where I would be liable for the rest of the year's rent if I left early. Most of the contracts I've seen state that you only don't have to pay that if you die, you graduate, or you join the military.

I could get a house if I asked, but I don't feel comfortable doing that. My parents don't have much money...they're horrible with it. My dad, besides having spent all of my trust fund rather than getting a job since he figured I wouldn't need it, also left a very good job with an oil company to go work for my grandfather at greatly reduced pay (my grandparents were actually living off of my aunt's generosity at that point so it didn't matter if his company didn't do well). They did stupid shit that fucked up their credit scores majorly. It was my aunt and uncle who set up my trust fund, gave me the money for my first car (insurance money from that total bought the second one), sent me to camp, etc.

The thing is that I love my aunt and uncle. They're quite awesome. I don't want my relationship with them to be about money.

As for what happens if I'm stuck with the roommate. One of my gay friends has already said he's perfectly willing to hang out for a few weeks a lot at my room with another gay friend who he will be fallaciously affectionate with. I can also get some Hitchens/Sagan/Darwin posters. Hmmmm...maybe this

I love uber christians. They make me laugh. They look down on me for being Agnostic, tell me I'm going to hell because I write fiction, and hate me because I've never stepped foot in a church.

Funny, I could have sworn that Christianity teaches you to love all your fellow man. And, since we're talking religiously here, God made me. So, he gave me my incredible imagination, my writing talent to compliment that imagination, my scientific mind that analyzes everything I see and makes me wary of things with no proof, the philisophical talents that make me believe that just because there is no proof doesn't mean that it doesn't exist, and pretty much everything else about me that you hate. So, if all of this goes against what he wants from me as you say they do, then how come he gave them to me?

The main reason I don't want a roommate is that there are days where my depression peaks (about 2/month) where I end up spending all day in bed crying my eyes out; no eating or sleeping, just being horribly depressed and trapped in my own head. As you might imagine, it is horribly embarrassing and is not something I like to do around other people.
