Picking up two more minors

I already have a math minor (21 hours required...18 are required for any eng/sci degree at Tech).

I looked at my schedule, and I think I might pick up a CIS minor and a CS minor. Both seem like they would be useful to me.

I'm wondering what classes to take though? Advisor is currently in Geneva so it's hard to go have a talk with him.

As for what I'd be doing, analyzing large sets of data, writing custom physics sims, etc. I'm just not sure what to take. I'm pretty familiar with OOP and when to just brute force, but my skillset so far has been acquired in reaction to needs and not in anticipation of needs. I guess you could say I'm looking for preventative measures to take so I don't have to spend time later when I'm working on projects learning stuff. It's also more feathers in my cap.

And, I know, 3 minors? Well, thanks to most of my classes being offered only once every 2 years and the fun I've had with illnesses, my meds, and my disabilities, I've only got 6 courses over the next few years. That being said, this would seem to open up job opportunities for me. My current ones would be Nuc Engineer (not too hot on this one....don't like power plant management), Astrophysics (100% job placement in the US, but...I like it as a past time; high energy physics is essentially going to merge with that field eventually though), Medical Physicist (great pay and I know a school I could get into that guarantees job placement, but having to work with patients who don't make it might get depressing; traditional radiation therapy also seems to be on the decline), and high energy (I enjoy this the most but...if they find the Higgs particles, I'm kind of out of a job...also, for every 100 graduates in the field, there are 10 positions available; that scares me).

I'm computer engineering so I sort of have essentially a CS minor built in. From the classes I have seen, Data Structures would be a useful application class, some introduction to programming classes generally teach good programming practice, web programming courses that teach CSS, PHP, JavaScript, HTML can be really useful to know. Networking and Databases are good too as well as maybe some electives. Software Engineering courses will help put into practice what you learn and prep your for industry. Some electives from my department are virtual worlds, game production, computer vision, compilers, Signal Processing, error correcting codes, communications and some others, though most of those are my EE electives. The CS hardcore classes that we call "the big three" are algorithms, automata theory, and principles of languages. If you are looking into maybe software engineering or something like that you should probably stay away from those classes since they are pretty abstract and only applicable if you are doing hardcore computer science. But if you want to learn scheme, lisp, and maybe some other similar languages, a principles of languages course could be relevant.

It's good that your actually looking at the job possibilities, oddly enough not enough people do that and end up with an education but struggle to find work. I don't understand, why are picking up so many minors? Won't that prolong your graduation?

Not at all. Math one was already done when I took some math classes as electives. All of the hours will be so I only really need to take 9 hours each quarter on average for the next two years. My degree will take two more years whether or not I go for the minors. Yay schizophrenia.
