Re: OK who knows about boats?
OK, it is illegal to put anything over the 70 that is on the sticker. That is a CG sticker. Second, I would check ever single thing on that boat before I even got near the water. It looks like it was just left out in the weather so the Sun and weather are rough on them. If it has wood stringers, you are more than likely screwed. I would also check the transom for cracks or soft spots. Man oh man. There are just so many things with a boat like that. I would take it COMPLETELY apart and check everything. It may not be even worth the time if anything is rotten on it. That right there is just scary.
If the boat checked out OK, which I highly doubt, it would be a good little puddle jumper. Being as you are only going near shore, that boat would be fine on a calm day.

Re: OK who knows about boats?
At first i thought it was a wood deck but once i got the leaves and carpet out i found the whole boat is fiberglass. However i had the same thought you did. I haven't taken a good look yet but from i have seen so far the only crack is by the bumper rail at the top. That should be an easy fix.
So their really douches about motor size huh? Oh well gonna have to go dex's route.

Re: OK who knows about boats?
As Party has said, need to check it over carefully. No offense, but by the look of the pictures, you wouldn't catch me off shore in that boat. Its amazing how much a boat will rot when sitting in the elements without being used. Matter of fact, I would find a reputable boat repair shop and pay them some bucks to do a thorough look over your boat. Don't have to have them repair anything, but they can tell you what the boat needs. You may find it is cheaper to use the money to fix this "free" boat and purchase another used one.
If you can get it in the water and running, enjoy your boat.

Re: OK who knows about boats?
I have a 78 ebbtide trihule with a 80 hp mercury. I've had the boat for about 7 years and I have taken it out twice. when I bought the boat, the boat mechanic I bought it from said the motor is great, which it is, but the floor is a little soft. I went out twice that summer then covered it up for the winter. I uncovered it during the winter to take a closer look at the floor and seen that is was fiberglass, as I turned around and stepped next to the livewell, I fell through the floor, the fiberglass had cracks letting water get to the wood floor. Now I have to replace the floor and stringers, it's way worse now that it has been sitting. I'm going to treat the new wood and fiberglass the stringers as well. I can't find any parts for it either. But that thing could haul some serious ass, and it looked good for a boat it's age. I took it through our intercoastal waterway to the gulf of mexico, out until I could see the beach then came back, cruised by some very large container ships and barges, the waves and the wake from the ships didn't bother me, if I got worried I'd hit them facing forward, basic boating. But I wouldn't go out in the ocean on a choppy day.
