Far more amazing than that though, is this little gem of irony: the country you claim to be supporting, the country you claim to have fought for, guarantees every man certain civil rights, which include personal safety. If you walk around physically assaulting everyone whose words you don't like (which I highly doubt), then you are stomping all over our constitution.

Actually, I'm speaking from reality. I've dealt with people from all walks of life, various religions or lack thereof, several other countries and cultures.

I also never said I agreed with the guy. I also never praised him. This quote from Evelyn Hall comes to mind: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

I do believe in the individual. I also believe in the group. I also think for myself and am pragmatic. I also do not claim that everything I say is my own original thought. When I reference things in my arguments it is to provide evidence to a discussion other than just my say so. I also do not claim to be smart quite often. Most often, it is other people telling me that unsolicited. I don't like to bring it up much as I feel that I am not smart; depression is a bitch as they say.

I have had people say things that undermine my way of life and on these very forums no less. It's why I became an atheist and quit christianity. What people said very much challenged my beliefs, so I debated, and in that case my mind changed. Have I ever gotten angry due to my beliefs being challenged? Yes. I have ever threatened someone with physical violence because my beliefs were challenged? No. I have only on a few occasions been willing to be violent outside of violent sports (kick the can, rugby, etc.) such as the time when a guy named Graham tried to kill me and the time my father tried to kill me.

As for forgetting how this nation was founded and how it survived, I certainly remember how. I have been a student of history and politics since I was a child. The difference between you and me is that I remember what things like the Bill of Rights and the Constitution say. I remember that the founders believed in protecting groups of people AND individuals. I also realize that someone can have different opinions than me, and that that is no reason to get violent. If you want to violate another persons rights guaranteed to them in the Constitution both at the Federal and State level, then you shouldn't call yourself an American.

If you cared to read my posts rather than just autoattacking, than you would see that my first response was to Mobi. I also responded to Option. There wasn't a need to respond to DG; I don't consider him the irrational type whose first thought is violence. I also do not hate you; you have not harmed me in such a way that it warrants hate. I do not hate someone merely because I disagree with them. Disdain though, I do show that. You act superior for reasons such as that you would beat someone up, not because they would threaten your daughter, but because they would dare to disagree with you.

I have never fought someone over what their beliefs were or if they disagreed with me.

It's not about that. It's about showing respect towards those who have made sacrifices far greater than the individual has ever made.

In a literal sense, I'm not a fighter, I however will always hold my country and the veterans who have served in high regard. If you do not, I'm not going to fight over it.

Let's see any one of you talk in such a way to an active soldier, a ranger, or even worse, a marine and see what happens to you.

You really think the first amendment is there to protect disrespect towards every person then you do not understand the foundation of the amendment.

It would most likely be assault. It's not meant to be. It would be a fit of rage over a spoken word. I wouldn't condone the behavior of the one issuing the beating or the one speaking the words.

It's not necessarily a beating his ass course of action it's more so that he deserves to get his ass beat for showing such disrespect.

The problem I have is that people are taking the first amendment to the extreme. We're allowed to now burn the flag without repercussion, we can insult soldiers right to their face without repercussion, we can pretty much say anything we want for whatever reason under the guard of the first amendment.

I do not like disrespectful people, and I don't like people who defend disrespectful people. It's as simple as that.

Those people are no better than the Westboro folks.

I said that in regards to OP not because they disagree.

I don't care if they disagree, I only care when they blatantly disrespect someone who has sustained the very rights they feel so entitled to.

Freedom of religion. Freedom of Speech.

No, I would not bar a defense to those who burn the flag; they have a right to do that. Doesn't mean I like it; just means they have a right to do it.

And yet, you would beat up someone to prohibit them from expressing the rights that our soldiers have died to protect.
