I can't tell yet. The deal with the new connector (Lightning) is that it's "all digital". They got rid of the analogue leads. I'm pretty sure that the use of Lightning's eight leads can be defined by application, and so can do different things depending on what they're plugged in to.

I read today that there will be Lightning-to-HDMI cables (also, Lightning-to-VGA). That'd be pretty sweet.
