Do I think we should go back to that? No. It's been proven to cause brain damage. Moreso on the OL/DL, LB, RB than on the people currently being protected.

Should Clark have been flagged/fined for that hit? Fuck no. He had 2 steps to stop himself after Taylor got his hands on the ball. Then the ball was bobbled. 1st rule you are taught as a defensive back is to stick with your man. The 2nd rule you are taught as a defensive back is that when a ball is tipped you knock your man on his ass to keep him from making a play on it. That's a picture perfect hit.

Fact is, that flag is never thrown if the defender isn't Ryan Clark. He has a reputation, that at this point is just bogus. None of the "helmet to helmet" hits he's been called for this year have had any helmet to helmet contact. They were all big body shots that looked brutal.

That was just one more atrocious call on the day though. Bill Leavy should NEVER be allowed to ref a Steelers game again. The first half of that game was pretty much unwatchable.

The worst part is, the defenders basically have no chance. It's pretty easy to correctly tackle your Megatrons, Fitzpatricks, Marcques Colston and Andre Johnsons of the league(big, tall receivers). It's pretty tough to do it on your Wes Welker and Santonio Holmes(small, shifty). The NFL's official video basically shows small gets getting lit up and big guys being tackled correctly. Young/bad QB's hanging their receivers out to dry makes shit worse, and the natural instinct to duck when getting hit causes more helmet to helmet contact than any actual intent to do so.

By the time the flag came out, it was very obvious Cruz was hurt. The separated ribs obviously came from a blow to the head.

This is exactly how it looked to me. The flag didn't come out until Cruz looked injured.

1. The ball was still in the air when Cruz was hit.

2. The penalty was for a "blow to the head", not for a late hit.

It is a BS call, and one of many in the new NCL.

Q sent this TCU receiver to the hospital with a broken jaw. He was not flagged back then. That night was very bad for TCU as multiple players were sent from TCU were sent to the hospital during the game.
