Re: Save money on razors
This is the one I got,
Amazon.com: Parker 99R - Long Handle SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT Butterfly Open Double Edge Safety Razor & 5 Shark Super Chrome Blades: Health & Personal Care
Kind of pricey, but will be worth it in the long run.
Blades are 1.5 cents each: Amazon.com: Shark Double Edge Safety Razor Blades, Super Chrome, 100 Count: Health & Personal Care
Also thinking about buying some shaving soap, probably a lot cheaper than buying shaving cream.

Re: Save money on razors
Well, after a couple of months using my 4 blade Dorco's I can say that they are just as good as normal brands. I have 8 boxes of (4) blades sitting in my cabinet should last 2 years. THese blades are about 2.5 times cheaper than the equivalent mach 3( even though I got the 4 blade). Simply put never going to buy from anywhere else again. Only exception is I may possible go for the single strait blade in the future for the hell of it.

Re: Save money on razors
Same, I didn't see any difference at all, the shave was the same and they lasted just as long as the name brand razors. Only down side is the shipping costs of 5 bucks, but you can avoid that by buying 25$ worth of razors. Also I use the 3 or 4 blade razors, 6 blades seems excessive and really I don't notice much of a difference between the two.

Re: Save money on razors
I have a Merkur safety razor that I have been more than happy with. The "typical/modern" multi-blade, cartridge/disposal razors always felt like they were doing more pulling than cutting, likely from the super thin multi-blade designs. The safety razor has a more satisfying, crisp/mechanical cut...if that makes sense. couple of possible tips coming from a cartridge/disposable: use relatively short strokes, and let the weight of the razor do most of the work.
I also got a "sampler pack" of blades from an online retailer when I first got it, and personally I thought the Gillette brand blades worked best for me so far (have one more brand left to get to from the sampler)...and I can find those in your typical drugstore (walgreens, cvs, etc).
oh, and in reference to the original post, my experience is on the face, not the head
per your "pricy" comment...:
safety razor @ 32$, 20ct double-sided blades @ 9$
vs
cartridge razor @ 9$, 8ct cartridge refills @ 32$
...same overall cost, but effectively 40 blades vs 8
(of course "googled" retail prices of the "latest/greatest" brand name cartridge refills)

Re: Save money on razors
I have always wanted to try a straight razor, but good lord are they expensive. Also doesnt seem to be something you wanna buy the cheap stuff either. It sucks that you fellas that have had one comment on how nice a shave they give. Lol, they should have a practice kit that is a dummy head.

Re: Save money on razors
Bought the same and it finally showed up yesterday. Shaved this morning and definitely see a difference in the closeness of the shaving. Usually with the Mach3 I go over my face once with shaving cream and then another time while still wet against the grain and get a smooth shave. This however gets it on the first try. Above the jawbone wasn't any issue. Very smooth and similar to regular shaving. I need to work on my neck technique though because I was bleeding a decent amount. Could also be that I waited a day or two longer than I usually wait to shave since I knew the delivery was being made so it was longer than usual. Could've had some bumps I nicked. Just had to grin and bear it and apply some nick-aid (burns like the dickens but does the job).
All in all this will be worth it in the long run. I have the box of shaving cream samplers I'm working through but after that I'll probably switch to the brush and lather.
