01-16-13, 11:17 AM #1Chip Kelly to the Eagles
Just saw this reported on ESPN. Will his wacky offense work in the NFL, or will he have to change his style? I give him 2 years, then he pulls a Saban and goes back to college.

Re: Chip Kelly to the Eagles
I agree he doesn't last long in the NFL. The dude changes his mind and flip flops so often he ought to be a politician. Last year he was on the verge of signing with the Bucs, then backed out at the last possible moment. This year he flirted with the idea, chose to stay with Oregon, and then changed his mind AGAIN and signed with the Eagles lol.
With that kind of a decision-making process, I honestly wouldn't be all that surprised if he pulled a Petrino and went back to college after just one year.
I think his offense will have some success in the NFL, assuming he gets the personnel to run it correctly....but I also think it's on a limited shelf life. Once teams start getting tape on what his NFL team is doing, the success will drop off a bit. Having the tape from college isn't quite the same.

The Patriots have implemented a significant part of Kelly's offensive ideas into their offense. Will he take the existing playbook from Oregon and bring it to the NFL? No. The College game is a different animal. He'll adapt his offense to the personnel he has available to him like any good coach will. Will he last long? Who knows. To borrow a quote from the late Al Davis... Just win, baby.

So much for staying at Oregon after all. I highly doubt he'll run his college system in the NFL though, I've heard at least a few mention he is smart with X's and O's. Thus it'd seem pretty odd, unless he isn't, to try and bring that system to the NFL where it might work for a little bit, but not for more then a year maybe.
His first move should to be to trade Foles for Kolb, Kolb seems a better fit for whatever system he'll probably try.....

Side note here, does anyone else find it intriguing that the trend this offseason for hiring coaches are those that are of the offense mind side of thing? Kind of makes me sad that no owners want to see smash mouth football anymore and would just rather be content winning in a shoot out. Pretty soon NFL games are going to look like NBA games with the amount of scoring going on.
