01-18-13, 02:35 PM #1Browns soon to be good again?
Just looking at the coaching/potential coaching staff, in the "big" positions anyways, it seems like they could have one hell of a OC and DC there. Norv has been hired already, and there are rumors that Ray Horton could become the DC. Though apparently they are also hiring Michael Lombardi in a GM position that isn't called a GM position. Don't know a lot about him, though it seeing a good bit about him being kind of crap.
Anyways, there is a lot more to becoming good but still, that seems like two great coordinators if they do manage to land Horton.

Re: Browns soon to be good again?
The Browns already had some good pieces on their team, so with a good coaching staff they could very well be good soon. Norv Turner can get the most out of their offense, and seeing him work with people like Josh Gordon and Trent Richardson, not to mention a pretty decent o-line, is gonna be nice to see. Horton would make one hell of a DC, as they currently have the personnel to run both a 3-4 and a 4-3 fairly well.
Lombardi isn't a bad guy for them to hire. Seen reports that he still occasionally does advance scouting for Bellichick, and that Bellichick uses that scouting when preparing weekly game plans. While he's most recently been an analyst for NFL Network, he's had significant experience working in the front office of various franchises. He's worked for the Niners, Browns, Eagles, Raiders and Rams.
Browns certainly have a lot of potential on their coaching staff so far. I dunno how well Chudzinski will do as a head coach, but if he manages to pull off a coup and get Horton then he'll have very good coordinators to back him up.

We'll see...the Browns major problem the last couple of seasons has been QB's and mental mistakes. They have a ton of talent(as you would expect any team that's drafted top 10 for 15 years). If they can get a system that allows Weeden to play it safe and not give the game away they could be a good team next year. Then again, I've said that about them the last 3 years...QB is the straw that stirs the drink.

I'm not sold on Weedon, to be honest. The guy doesn't have a lot of time to develop because of his age, and it's a big step going from college to the pros. I honestly think ya'll shoulda stuck with Colt McCoy since you were running a modified west coast anyways, and used Weedon's 1st rounder on another legitimate weapon for the offense.

Well to be honest, the Browns probably have a brighter future than the Steelers at the moment. Steelers are probably going to lose Mike Wallace and Keenan Lewis in FA, and their drafts the last few years have been underwhelming. Still think DeCastro and Mike Adams can make the Steelers look good for drafting them both but now there are injury question marks, and the rest of last year's draft was pretty meh at best.

The ability to have quality drafts in the mid to late 1st round is what differentiates a 'good' NFL team and a 'great' NFL team. Anyone can rebuild a team like Cleveland has (sucking forever and being a perennial top 10 pick in the draft.)
