Didn't think there was a need for two different topics, on top of the other hiring topics for a firing and hiring, so going to lump them together.
So, Saints fired DC Steve Spagnuolo and Secondary coach Ken Flajole. Interesting bit about Spagnuolo (I think it was) and his relations with the players in the article

Meanwhile Rob Ryan has been hired by the Rams and also learned why Dallas fired him. (Its in the article, and there is another article about it but going to just do the one).

The Colts at some point this week or last or whenever hired Pep Hamilton as their new OC to replace BA. Hamilton was a former OC for Stanford:

Detroit has hired Jim Washburn to an unnamed position but will be helping coach the D-Line with Detroits current D-Line coach. Now correct me if I'm wrong but it seemed like the Eagles (at least last year) didn't exactly wow when it came to the D-Line. Granted their is likely more a resume then just the one year *shrugs*.

Yesterday Tony Sparano was announced as the Raiders Assistant Head Coach/O-Line coach.

So can't make opinions on all of them as I don't really know enough to say (and some it is hard to say really isn't?). The one I left out commenting on til the end was the Rob Ryan one.
I guess I'm curious what will happen with their defensive unit in terms of players in general. The Rams don't seems to be built to run the 3-4, or there better players anyways. I can't see Long in a 3-4 and Quinn may not be able to do it either. Brockers and Langford I would guess could handle it, especially Brockers. The linebackers would seem to have to be all flushed out and have to rebuild there (Dunbar is too small, and Rocky doesn't seem like a 3-4 OLB or ILB). I think the CB position would be fine (could be wrong) and unsure on the safeties.
Would a Ryan run a 4-3 base? I mean it seems the entire family uses a 3-4/46, but it also seems the Rams would have to almost start over and lose Quinn/Long to do it *shrugs*.

I am not going to pile on Rob Ryan as I think he might be an ok guy and coach, BUT living in Dallas they made a great point on the radio today. The Dallas defense created 16 turnovers all season. For those that are no good at math that is 1 per game. For comparison the Bears created 44 turnovers. I would love to have an offense have 28 extra possessions a season, or almost 2 per game, even if Tony Romo would give the ball right back on 1/3-1/2 of them.

Supposedly, at least what I read a couple places is Rob Ryan ended up playing fairly conservative most of the year. Which, for one, a Ryan doing that seems odd. Second, with a 3-4, isn't that basically saying "Lets be shit at everything!"?
I think it is fair to pile on Rob Ryan though, if he did something wrong it is deserved, the plight of the coach as one could put it. In his case it seems there is evidence to put a large part of the blame on his play calling, which makes him responsible for the lack of turnovers and other issues. Now, there are limits, imo, e.g. blaming a DC for the defense sucking when the GM gives you a bunch of shit to work with a bit unfair, but again it is how it goes.

My personal observation is the defense was ravaged with injuries the last 4 or so weeks of the season. We had lost our top 2-3 ILBs, our best 1 or 2 safeties, and our overall best player was playing with one arm. The fact that we won any of them is a miracle. That being said the defense was pretty crappy even when healthy earlier in the season, especially in terms of turnovers. However, it seems to me that Jason Garrett is one of the most conservative coaches in all of football, and that may have played a role in what calls the DC made.

Rob Ryan wasn't the problem with the Cowboys. My list in order
#1. Jerry Jones
#2. Jerry Jones x2
#3. Toney Romo
#4. No O-Line
#5. No RB
#6. No defensive stars
#7. Head CoachSon calls Dad a fag.

I am not saying he is the problem with the team, but he deserves some part of the blame for the defense. You mention one thing pertaining to the defense, no stars, and I would argue that DeMarcus Ware and Sean Lee are both star caliber, but both were also hurt for at least 4 games. This was quite possibly the most conservative Ryan coached defense I have EVER seen, and I watched Buddy in Philly and Chicago. Now, was that because of him, or because he was told to do that is the question?

Re: Today in Coaching Carousel News
Yeah, he deserved to be fired he gave up some big games regardless of what Romo haters think. I will say, his defense was very good at bending but not breaking though. Numerous times he was put in tough field position due to offensive turnovers and more often than not he turned those into just three points which is damn good in my opinion. With that being said, he totally went against the grain with his defensive scheme this year, he rarely blitzed or sent added pressure, which is basically why dware didn't do shit. The scheme might of work had we not lost church, ratliff, scandrick, carter, and lee for the season; however, sending the house on the offense doesn't really require big names just bodies. Personally, I think he would've been fired on any team that was on the playoff bubble but didn't make because they lost a few games at the end.
He just didn't get the job done point blank period.
Now I WOULD'VE liked to had seen him in NO since payton says they wanna go 3-4. I think they would've did damage, but the rams have a team on the bubble of becoming pretty good so who knows.
