Re: Video games force their story

I agree you should be able to skip them, but not for the reasons you state. I don't see a point in single player games if there's no story. It's like reading the Dictionary, or watching a movie with Nick Cage. Its silly.

Why continue the game if the story doesn't matter? If the reasons for you living or dying in the game hold no weight then why play at all? Bragging rights? to who? The pixels on the screen? Maybe it's just me, but games without a story, without any point, are dumb.

Cause I play them for the social aspect. It's more about playing against and with people than playing for a purpose or to fulfill a goal. Something you can't get playing solo.

Re: Video games force their story

I believe you should have the option to skip it but as for completely taking it out of the game nah. I think while storytelling in games needs a lot of help it is very important of keep it in. It isn't enough to just have the game and it's mechanics anymore. What you need in order for the art form to grow is storytelling and the ability to set the limitations of the world you are playing in or even establish what you are and what you are doing in the game.

Speed runs? Isn't there a goal Associated with all video games, whether its killing time, entertainment, or Socialization, or Points?
