Sad how UFC killed boxing. I miss the good ole days of boxing, which in my lifetime was in the late 80's and 90's

Boxing killed itself, really. It was dead long before UFC really became popular.

Boxing is STILL killing itself with fixed fights. And not just back room brawls either. Major pay per view fights that were so lopsided as to be laughable being judged for the wrong guy can be nothing BUT a fix. Don't remember the most recent ones off the top of my head but I do know I scored one of them 119-109 (which is what Ledderman had on his score card too) and the judges gave it to the other guy in a split decision. Lampley and Kellerman were beside themselves. (I think this was the Pacquiao vs Bradley fight come to think of it). When you have a fight as totally lopsided as that fight was, and then give it to the other guy with 115-113 scores on all three cards, there's something fishy going on.

When boxing turns into the same amount of reality as wrestling... it's not worth watching. "Never let it go to the judges" is a phrase that boxers have said for decades. And it's not been more true than now.

Not to mention there hasn't been many big names like there used to be. The heavyweight division has been a joke since Tyson fell from grace.

Yeah that Pacquiao vs Bradley fight was washy. Pac man destroyed him for all but 3 rounds, but somehow lost the fight. Another one that I can think of is the last Amir Khan fight i watched, think it was against Washington or someone like that. Khan pretty much dominated that fight too, but he was fighting in the other guys' backyard and lost the fight on that reason alone.

The heavywieght division has been a mess since Lewis started to tip toe around Tyson, somewhere around 98 or so. Also it doesnt help when everyone knows that the one fight that could almost save boxing at this point (Mayweather vs. Pacquiao) wont happen because one of the fighters is too much of a pussy to take the fight.

Oh and the lone bright spot right now is Bernard Hopkins winning yet another belt at his age. Guy is like 45+ years old and still prize fighting and still winning. There is hope for this sport yet.

Absolutely. The best fights/fighters are all in the middle weights now. Pacquiao, Bradley, Mayweather, Diaz, Cotto, Donaire, Marquez, Ward... Those are the guys pushing the money fights right now. But I can only think of two heavyweights worth a damn right now... And both of them have the name Klitschko. There are no good heavyweights out there really. The heavyweight division is almost a sideshow now when 25 years ago it was the premier division of the sport.

    Re: Wow! What a fight.

Problem with the heavyweights is that there are something like 4 different boxing organizations touting that their guy is the true champ. Doesnt help all these guys are under different promoters and you know unification fights wont happen because each promoter wants to keep a belt in their company so they can claim it. As much as I hate the guy, I do miss the days of Lennox Lewis because when he was around we at least knew who the real champ was.

It might have been the Khan fight that was the other recent fix that I was thinking of. Can't remember. That one was a joke as well.
