    Melting metal.

I'm getting ready to build one of my inventions/designs and need to melt 2 to 3 types of metal. They're all softer melts around the brass range for temp. I dont want to buy a shit load of equipment for this because the amounts i need to melt are small. Anyone have any ideas on how to get it done? I do have several small torch heads that attach to the small cans of propane/butane/mapp gases. I'll go buy a welder if it will work. At least then i can weld my subframe connectors on my car that i bought 5 years ago. I saw something about a microwave trick but i'll be honest and say thats not at the top of my list.

How much metal and are you looking to mould it or just melt it?

I'll be pouring it into casts. As for the amount just a few ounces of each.

In that case, a propane torch and ladle will work. Cheapest route I can think of.

Going off of memory here so I might be a bit off. Propane burns at ~2000F and brass melts at about ~1700F. As long as your Ladle is cast iron or steel, you should be good to go. If you need the flame hotter you can add some oxygen.

Mapp gas burns hotter than propane. Never hurts to club up.

I think that it will melt the iron or steel ladle. It also might cause the brass to boil.
