Getting a new gun gun gun gunnnnnn...
So I started shooting in this little informal competition once a month... Last month we had 10 people I think... I was using a borrowed Scar 17S (.308) with iron sights. The guns were many and varied... Ruger 10/22 with a decent scope... 90 year old Swiss rifle shooting 7mm (I think) with iron sights... FS2000 with holo red dot... Ruger Scout (.308)... Just all over the place. A few had scopes... I think there were 3 people using the same 10/22 with scope.
We had one round standing off hand @ 50 yards... one round standing off hand @ 100 yards... one round kneeling @ 100 yards... one round sitting @ 200 yards... one round prone @ 200 yards.
Longer story longer yet... I got 5th using the scar.
So now I'm thinking I had quite too much fun with that and I need my own rifle. I have been thinking for a couple weeks now and decided on a 17HMR first... Then I found out Winchester is making a 17WSM (win super mag) round... So that's what I wanted... Figured I wanted something I could hunt small game with too. Then I was unfortunately introduced to the 22-250 round. So today I went shopping...
Think I'm going to buy a Savage Model 11 in 22-250. I won't be hunting any small game I intend to eat with that round (initial investigation has determined that squirrels and rabbits and such tend to vaporize from a 55gr 22-250...) But it will be SUPERB as a target rifle. And I'll pick up a 10/22 or something for squirrel.

The OP 22-250? I kinda fell in love with it when the lady behind the counter goes "oh we have THIS one that just came in..." and handed it to me.
Not entirely thrilled with the one to two dollars per trigger pull that the ammo costs, but I can deal with that. I'll learn to reload and reload it for 25 cents per pull.

Picked it up tonight. Put 55 rounds downrange. 63gr soft nose hunting ammo @ 50 yards to sight it in... Scope was HORRIBLE off to begin with. Had to bore sight it just to get it on paper. Once on though it was about 1.5" groups of five. Switched to 55gr hunting ammo @ 100 yards and was getting about the same 1.5" groups. Switched to some Nosler 55gr ballistic tip good stuff and it tightened up the groups to 1 MOA. And that... I can live with.
Maybe I'll get back out next weekend (when I can afford some more ammo) and tighten it up a bit more. Then take it out to 200 yards and see what I can do there.
