    That's a fair assessment.

This is a must read IMO. Glenn Cook was one of the first writers to do away with the stereo types, and really get down to the nitty gritty. Guys been pretty influential in fantasy and so few people have read his stuff.

Steven Erikson(Malazan Book of the Fallen) continuously has high praise for Cook and names him as his prime inspiration. Erikson writes some pretty gruesome fantasy at times similar(but better imo) than Martin.

“With the Black Company series Glen Cook single-handedly changed the face of fantasy—something a lot of people didn’t notice and maybe still don’t. He brought the story down to a human level, dispensing with the cliché archetypes of princes, kings, and evil sorcerers. Reading his stuff was like reading Vietnam War fiction on peyote.”

Easily, especially looking at my bookshelves and realizing that there's no 'Steam' sale equivalent for new books.

I approve. I also really enjoy Erikson's writing.

Yes. He was in the hospital essentially verbally saying what he wanted changed and whatnot. It was him but not him...drugged up for most of it unable to write.
