Start Seeing Motorcycles
Or start seeing them doing stupid shit...
Shocking video of Range Rover crashing through bikers after they surround the vehicle during annual street ride | Mail Online
Being a sport bike rider myself, I don't doubt the guy's statement that they were riding erratically for even a second. You can see a bit of it in the video. It looks to me like, combined with their riding slowly (and likely erratically), the range rover got a little too close for their comfort and the nitwit in bluejeans ahead of him brake checked him. Stopping a 4000 pound range rover takes a bit more time to stop and he bumped the guy.
At that point, instead of dealing with it like adults and calling the cops, they decided to get a little street justice. Which caused the guy to fear for his life and those of his wife and child. He did the only thing he could. He took off. Unfortunately that escalated the issue and a full of chase took place. By all counts, the man eventually got his ass beat badly after the video cuts out.
The driver of the SUV obviously shouldn't have been following that closely. The bikers shouldn't have been weaving in and out of lanes of traffic. And the bikers shouldn't have been taking up all 3 or 4 lanes of traffic either. A number of things were wrong with the scenario and all of them could have been eliminated by the bikers themselves. If they hadn't been taking up all lanes of traffic, the SUV likely would have went around and continued on it's way.
As bikers, we need to hold ourselves to a higher standard than cagers (car drivers). Like TPG and teamplayers, we are the minority. We show the world who we are every single time an incident happens. And given the public bias against bikers cultivated by half a century of "outlaw" bike gangs, hooligan sport bikers, movies and television, we cannot afford to allow things like this to happen. NYC has already banned this particular get-together in the future and if we are not careful, soon we will see bans on bikers riding in groups of more than 2 or 3 at a time.
We all like to do a high speed run now and then. That's why we buy bikes that can do 186mph. We like to ride with our buddies. We even occasionally like to get stupid and pop a wheelie or two. But we need to temper our idiocy with awareness of our surroundings and the knowledge of when and where such things are able to be done without involving anyone else. I have little compassion for idiots who stoppie into the back of a car because they wanted to show off... or slam into the back of a semi at 150mph. My insurance rates should not go up because dumb shits keep rashing themselves and totalling their rides stunting on the highway or public streets. And people in SUV's should not have to fear for their lives because some dipshit thinks he can brake check a vehicle 10 times his size from 10 feet away.

Re: Start Seeing Motorcycles
I am a rider myself and have been for a long time. People driving in cars, either just don't know you are there or don't care. I have pretty much stopped driving in town. I will do my riding on the back roads.
That being said, there would be some shot and run over mother fuckers right there.

Re: Start Seeing Motorcycles
As riders we definitely need to know that people in cars are oblivious to us. I've had a few close calls and I've had my fair share of road rage over it but it's been limited to giving the finger and cursing up a storm. I've had a few moments of idiocy... splitting minivans on a highway that wouldn't get out of the way... 170+mph run with a ferrari wanting to play on a highway... etc. It's stupid and shouldn't have happened. But that's just it. We need to be the "better man" so-to-speak. We stand to lose more if we make a mistake, and we become visible targets for the media when we do. Kicking mirrors, ball bearings, etc, are just asking for trouble for all bikers.

Re: Start Seeing Motorcycles
I would not have stopped driving and or shooting until I got to safety or was dead.
