Re: Clippers ruling
That woulda been my answer as well.
Likewise, I would guess that (close to) all of us have said something racist at some point in our lives.
I'll cop to it. I've also said sexist things. All of us have at one point been some combination of: younger, stupider, drunker, myopic, sheltered, stubborn, abused by someone who looked different, subject to difficult social circumstances, and/or related to- or friends with racists before we knew what that even was.
But this guy is old, rich, privileged, white, owns a racially diverse business, lives in a racially diverse country, and wields a fair amount of social and political power. He is long past where there is any excuse.

Thinking along those lines, he's also allowed to believe and feel however he wants to. Regardless of right or wrong, those statements he made were in what he believed to be a private setting. It's not like he posted his comments on facebook or during a public interview. It seems as though this GF of his muscled some of the comments in hopes he'd dig a deeper hole for himself.

Re: Clippers ruling
Fans dont stop buying tickets because someone made a racist remark and player dont start skipping work for it either due to liking making millions of dollars. Both already proven. He had a private conversation that was illegally recorded. Odds are this isn't over because it was an illegal activity that started the whole thing and he has the money to force his point in court. She better hope he opts for the high road due to value of the damaged caused.

I read somewhere that the call was recorded legally but have no idea if that is accurate. As for him being old, wise, or rich enough to know better these athletes are also stating they are old and wise enough by speaking out against it, and while they may not have as much money as him I bet up until this week more Americans knew Chris Paul and Blake Griffin than knew who Donald Sterling was. Kobe called someone a favor in public and got a slap on the wrist, think it was a game or two ban. This guy says he doesn't want his GF posting pictures with black men in private and gets banned for life. Seems fair enough to me.

Whether you like the source or not this article is pretty eye opening.

Absolutely. I don't want to break into this guy's head and rewire him. He gets to believe and feel what he wants. Other people get to believe and feel what they want about him.
Maybe everything we think we've learned over the last few hundred years about the real and imagined differences between groups of people is bullshit. Maybe racism is a social illusion. Maybe this guy knows something the rest of us don't.
I mean - he's a billionaire and I'm not, right?
But from the outside (with the very little I know, and the few experiences I've had), it feels like something I've seen before - like there was some point in the past where this guy took a look at social attitudes and rather than reconsider his own beliefs he decided that racism had become unfashionable, and so the best course of action was to wear his racism privately.

Re: Clippers ruling
This is no different than small towns hiding crimes committed by their high school sports teams. In the case of Ohio, those kids got what they deserved, but I'd imagine it happens a lot more than what we read about. Read that article that AE posted a few days ago about the bag men. There was a segment in there that referred to these actions. In short, as long as you can play, people don't care if you commit crimes, owe lots of money, or can't spell.
