Re: Clippers ruling
I think we need to figure out just how illegal the recording was.
He isn't on trial for murder. She didn't tap his phone without his knowledge (that we know). It isn't being used as evidence in any court.
She can't be sued for slander. He was hung with his own words, and he admitted to the NBA that it was him on the recording. She never slandered him. The most he could sue for is the money she got from TMZ for the recording, as the damage was done with his own yapper. Even that would be a stretch. Either way, I'm sure his lawyers will try, but as they say, "You can't get blood from a turnip".
Some States allow calls to be recorded providing both parties are privy. I don't know where she was when she recorded him. Either way, he'd never see any cash from her.

Re: Clippers ruling
And all Pro Sports should have the same guidlines. Gross Misdemeaner and above = Lifetime ban. Across the board......Football, Baseball, Hockey, Basketball. Assaults, drugs, drunk driving arrests....All can get you canned in the Real World. Either we demand the same of pro athletes, or we don't. If we don't, don't be surprised when sports are full of shitbags.

I am assuming he was in CA when the call took place. If that is accurate if laws haven't changed in the last few years then CA requires that both parties consent to having the call recorded. Does her allegedly breaking the law to record him make him any less of a douche? Of course not, but then again as dex says this isn't a court of law. My issue is if we are going to legislate who can go where, work where, or even own what company based on whether they are a douchebag or not then I fear most people need to be banned from the NBA for life, and have their jobs/businesses taken from them.

Re: Clippers ruling
I wonder if she was in CA as well, and if it would make a difference.
As for the legality of the recording, I haven't heard anyone talking about her being charged with a crime fwiw.
No one has legislated anything. If you owned a McDonalds franchise, and were busted with drugs and/or kiddie porn, I bet the sign would be coming down as McDs pulls the franchise from you. Same thing here. He bought a business that is part of an association. That association has the right to boot you with a 3/4 vote, and he knew that going in.
Like buying a house in a neighborhood that has an association. Don't get upset when they don't approve of the color you want to paint your own house.
As for shitbag athletes....as long as the fans are cool with them, they will always have a job. See Michael Vick.

Re: Clippers ruling
The only thought I've had through this is, "a rich, old, dick of a man (open gf and wife of 50 years, come on...) is also a racist and bigot who would have thought it?!". Why is shit like this so news worthy (like hours and hours being talked about). I bet a good number of 80 year olds are racists and no one bats an eye at the thought of that.

I used to work in a few call centers, and from what we were told it didn't matter where we were. That is why any time you call any big company they tell you in the recording that your call is being recorded. That way their ass is covered no matter what your local laws are.
I don't disagree that they have the right to give him the boot if 75%+ vote that way. Hell, they could all just get together and for the fun of it vote another owner out for all I care even if the guy did nothing wrong. Just saying all of these players that are turning their noses up at this guy because he smells like, and is, a POS probably have several similarly dressed skeletons in their closets.Last edited by CivilWars; 04-30-14 at 03:22 PM.

Re: Clippers ruling
Oh I fully agree that there are double, triple, and quadruple standards going on. I also agree that there are people talking from high horses who wouldn't know which end to put the food into.
It is interesting, though, that the very people that allow their athletes to get away with murder, hold each other to a higher standard. Or maybe they all have skeletons (just as everyone else does), and don't want the light shined on them. Better to hold the light away from themselves. Either way, Sterling is getting what he asked for. He is ultimately responsible for his words.
