And shame on the other owners, and David Stern, who have known for the past 20+ years that this dude was trash. But hey, there was no TMZ prior to 2010 or so when most of his far worse acts were going down. Donald Sterling didn't get punished for being a racist, or this would have happened 2 decades ago. Donald Sterling got punished because too many people got upset that he is a racist.

Re: Clippers ruling
Not being on trial for murder aside it still illegal and it has already been used as evidence just not in a real court. Which if he decides to fight will result in real damages and a real conviction of unlawfully recording. Which seeing as it is a phone conversation makes it an actual wire tap.
Personally i dont give a shit about him but she put this out there not him. He has the same expectation of privacy that i do and she violated that in an illegal fashion. As for what he can sue for he can sue for far more then the money she got from tmz. His lost income due to her illegal activity is far more then that. He's still a dick but he has the right to have an opinion and the right expect him not being recorded without his knowledge.

I disagree slightly, he got punished because it made the league look bad (or would if they didn't bring the hammer down). They all knew he was, but he got caught, on tape this time.
As for the recording, what I've heard is he had her recording all his conversations because he might "forget." If true, I'd assume that would make it legal (since he would know she would be recording).
