Re: people use the wrong word...
Personally I would think that someone correcting a common misuse of a word would be a good thing. Unless it's a phone autocorrect that's gone haywire, as they are wont to do, then that correction is teaching someone the right use of the word. If someone gets bent out of shape because of that, then oh well... Too bad for them. It's not like I'm going "OMFG YOU ARE AN IDIOT! DO YOU NOT KNOW HOW TO USE TEH ENGRISH!?"... It's a little corrective nudge. "fixed that for you."
People should always strive to communicate correctly using proper use of the english language (or whatever language you might be using). Of course there are abbreviations we all use because typing can be tedious. I don't usually have a problem with those (civil uses them all the time and uses ones I don't even know WTF they mean). I also don't normally have an issue with a misspelling or obvious phone autocorrection issue. It's when those misspellings are consistent that it shows the person doesn't know that their spelling is incorrect, or when they misuse a word because they don't know which word to use that I start getting a little eye twitchy.
I'm not perfect. I am an ellipsis whore. I use them ALL the time when I shouldn't. I have issues with some punctuation and where to use it. But I do like to think I have a relatively decent grasp on the language and when and where to use certain words. So I pass that on when I see someone butchering the language.
