How many people do you think signed off on that memorial plaque? Important? Maybe not. But I'm sure it was important to someone and all it now shows is that whoever wrote that had no grasp of the simple grammar required for it.

More important? Resumes, applications, formal letters... If someone uses incorrect words in casual conversation, how much do you want to bet that when it becomes important they are going to make the same mistakes? Some of those people might be smart enough to get one of their friends to proofread their work. But what's the guarantee that person knows what they are doing as well? So yeah, even in casual conversation, the importance of using the right words and grammar is paramount. I'm not going to correct everyone (some people are beyond correcting) and I'm not going to sweat the little shit. And I'm not even going to correct the big shit ALL the time. But occasionally, when it's been a bad day, or when someone is rubbing me the wrong way to begin with, or maybe just when i see someone making the same mistake over and over and think maybe they need a little nudge... I might well break out the red ink pen and start correcting.

I didn't say you were doing it because you feel or felt superior. I said its a sign of someone feeling that way.

We can disagree on the importance of fucking casual chat up. I still believe based on how I do it and how everyone i've seen deal with shows when it counts people slow down and proof read.

Now as for the plaque. The people making the plaque dont give a shit what it says. Someone tells them what they want on it and they put it on there. If done any other way the person doesn't have to pay for it. I guess its also not out of the realm of possibilities that the person plugging the shit in the computer fucked up.

The problem with people correcting someones grammar or spelling on the internet is that GENERALLY they are doing it as an argument point. IE: They are in a debate/argument with someone and they run out of real points so they start nitpicking someone's grammar/spelling. THAT is a douche move.

1. I never said you ever pretended to be a grammar nazi. I implied you are a ___________(insert anything other than grammar here) nazi.

2. I also never said that I, or others, don't claim to know "everything" either.

3. What I actually did say/imply is that you are calling people "a douche" for correcting you, or others, about their grammar when you also have a habit of correcting people about ___________(insert anything other than grammar here) which I am sure everyone here receives with gratitude and thanksgiving for your insight, as opposed to thinking you are just a douche as well.

Hence irony.
