Birch beer is really only prominent in the noth/northeast. It's another thing attributed to the Pennsylvania Dutch. You can only find it in specialty stores down here in Texas. Not too many birch trees grow here. It's one of those things from my childhood that I really miss.

I like that regional effect.
I had Moxie when I was in Maine. Moxie is strange. Maybe you need to grow up with it to "get it", but to me it tasted ok until you stopped drinking it. I got an unpleasant after-flavour. I had no trouble finishing the bottle, but then I needed something else to get the post-Moxie out of my mouth.
Someone mentioned Cheerwine. I'd never heard of it until I lived in North Carolina. Cheerwine seemed ok (though not my preference), but the weird thing about that part of the country is that they cook with it. I was at a local market where someone was selling Cheerwine Cake. It was like a pound cake or a bundt cake, but made with Cheerwine. They also had Dr. Pepper Cake.
I got invited to Sunday dinner at someone's house: they made Pepsi chicken. It was basically chicken baked in a Pepsi bath: Glass baking dish, buncha chicken parts, a can-and-a-half of Pepsi, into the oven at 350.
Nice people. I thanked them for dinner, but I didn't have seconds.

1. Anything from Sprecher...Some of the best Root Beer and Cream Soda on the planet.
Sprecher Brewing Company.
2. Throwback Mountain Dew- Made w/ real sugar...the ONLY Dew worth drinking.
3. Throwback Pepsi- Again, made with real sugar.....the nectar of my youth.
4. Killebrew Root Beer
5. Mexican Coke
Root Beer should almost have it's own topic as many a micro-brew also make root beer. Sprecher is just one of many (and one of the best), but is probably the widest known (although, since it's brewed in Mad Town, it might not make it too far out of the Midwest).SmokenScion liked this post

Try Total Wine and More, found some there before I think (The one here has Alcoholic ginger beer as well, Reeds (?) and Crabbies. Crabbies is great if you love ginger). Says on their site they have one in Dallas and two in Plano. BevMo should carry ginger beer as well (again iirc).
