I dunno. From the videos it seemed like the whole point of that event was the art and performance sculpture.

Or maybe the point was to gather in the woods and spend 5 days living a fantasy.

Maybe I won't go to something where I know I'll hate the music, but there's a lot of things in this world and the only way to find out if you like something new is to go check out new stuff.

Scion: Glad you had fun. Too bad about the music.

    Cheers,

You are correct, It's not about the Music. Guyver has no idea what he's talking about. As do most people who have never been to a Burn Event. There are VAST differences.

Oddly I didn't intend on hooking up with chicks, as I do not have a one track mind, unlike some people.

Also getting the cheapest of most things is a bad idea, there are only a few things I would opt for the cheapest of. Girls are not one of them.

A burn is more than just music. A burn is about self discovery, pushing your own boundaries. I slept in a home made tent for 5 nights. I haven't been camping in at least a Decade. I use a CPAP machine to sleep at night. I took a battery and inverter and made do on my own. I took everything I would need, including water (1gal a day) Food and booze. I dressed up in costumes, and danced my ass off (to shitty music) II saw wonders that will inspire me for years.

I'm going back next year, and I plan on building a theme camp. It was fun. And I'd do it again in a heartbeat. (even with shitty Music)

I wish there was an App that would listen to the music playing around me and select a Song in MY library that closly resembles that song and play it over the headphones. So I could Jam out to your (the Dj's) set with everyone else, except I'm enjoying my own music. OR I could just learn to DJ and play what I want to hear. Either way work is invovled and I'm willing to do it.

Woodstock and other "Music" festivals are made to make money. Burns are 100% volunteer run, and "most" non profit LLC's. This is a Very distinct difference. The slight profit a burn will make will be reinvested into next years insurance fund, orwill be given out in an art grant. This year Apogaea gave out $50k in art grants.

What could you make with 50k?

    But teh shitty muzak.

Sounds like fun. Why did you not go camping for so long (not that I have any excuse as I haven't in a decade either)?

My ex wife already lived in the mountains, so it was like Camping in a house.....(yeah not the same)

Before that I never really wanted to, I never had the group of friends who did it regularly, and had no desire to go by myself.

The CPAP machine was a huge hinderance as well. I just never really bothered with it.
But now I'll be going back out for a camp on labor day. Maybe another one before that too.

It's fun. Sunscreen! Also, I'm not sure of the soil type, but if the soil is more sandy, than you can use that to clean dishes as it absorbs oil.

For shits, dig a pit and squat. Stir it up afterwards to help it breakdown. The stuff in our diets doesn't break down as quickly as what animals eat. Squatting is the way to go unless you can find a log. Technically, kind of squatting from up in a tree will get the most out, but good luck aiming. If you're not using leaves (watch out for poison ivy), you'll want to bring along trashbags. Camping stores should sell some that are scented, block scents from what's inside, and are durable.

Check out what the dangerous local wildlife is and plan accordingly. If you're not around a lot of other people, you may want a sealable tent for the fucking snakes.

Dried/canned goods are your friend. I really liked making couscous with some canned bone chicken thrown on top. Nalgenes are great for water. If you're staying in one place, you can just bring a huge ass thing of water, but if you're on the move, plan out the trip based upon where you can fill up. A pump filter is good. Barring that, a clean bandana+iodine tablets should work.

Noted, but I'm pretty big on LNT(leave no trace) That means packing out what you poop.
