Only thing that comes to mind is at the end of Fury Road he calls himself Max. But it was kind of a questioning statement, at least that's how interrupted it. Like he wasnt sure that wad his name or maybe even, now that you brought this whole subject up, that he just said his name was Max even though it really isnt.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road
Usually.
Possible exceptions:
Empire Strikes > New Hope
Aliens > Alien
Dark Knight > Batman Begins
From Russian With Love > Dr. No
Might also argue that The Road Warrior was better than the original.
Might argue the other way on any of them I guess, and the rarity only shows how often the rule holds. But the existence of exceptions is intriguing.
Other examples?

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road
Are you Loco? Aliens is a fantastic movie but is eclipsed by the incredible masterpiece that is Alien.
Aliens is what happens when a cult film gets noticed, pulls a decent budget, and the director respects the first film. I love the parallels they draw in Aliens to Vietnam but ultimately Alien is a superior film, more ambiance, more visceral action, and the lack of action makes it far more scary.
Alien 3 would've been much better if they had pursued the other concepts they had in mind, honestly even the director hated the film and apologised.
Alien 4 was popcorn fluff.
Prometheus was a huge let down, despite its gorgeous filming.
AVP films will forever remain in a dark pit in my mind.
I think I digressed somewhere in this thread!
