Thread: Star Trek Discovery [Potential Spoilers]

I'm not sure what to make of the show right now, tbh.

What are everybody's thoughts?

I just watched Ep1 and Ep2. I like it. It's done in the 2009 Star Trek movies instead of the old series. It was good most of the crew got killed. Klingons don't got time for that! Hahaha!!!

didn't like it full of alpha ho's running the show

Just watched episode 1 - it's got potential but I have a few major criticisms that could hold the show back for me.

1) title sequence is awful imo
2) sensors can't lock onto this thing, better let the first officer fly into the radiation alone.
3) I feel like they are trying to make her rash and impulsive like Kirk behaves in the new movies. She apparently got to where she was by being bright, intelligent, and following starfleet protocol. Better throw all that out the window and open fire on a larger enemy ship to say hello. Like seriously? you have cloaked hostiles with tech that lets prevents you from even locking on a scan, and pulling back for reinforcements is completely off the table? I fear their attempts to make the show action packed for new audiences will cause them to lose the great elements of the previous shows.

I like the look, the dialogue is okay, but the production quality is astounding. I wouldn't necessarily say it's all style and no substance. There's definitely potential, but I'm not loving it yet. I love star trek, so I'll definitely keep watching, but I'm slightly disappointed. We'll see though.

Update: Well, now that I've watched the second episode and the context it provides, I can see why some of the decisions were made the way they were. It looks as if this show will be very action heavy like the new trilogy of movies, but at least we can expect the high production quality we've seen so far. Episode 2 was solid and even though I'm still a little bit sad we aren't getting the exploration type show of the days of old, this one looks like it will at least be entertaining if nothing else.

I have a feeling that Michael has some wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff going on. She seemed pretty sure of herself that people were going to die. This COULD possibly tie into the temporal cold war on Enterprise...

At the end of episode 2, there was like a season trailer thing that just started playing on my stream. There wasn't a lot of detail, but there was some gnarly looking sci-fi stuff going on. I wouldn't be surprised if they went that route.

Somewhat related/unrelated note - anybody watching Orville? It worth checking out?

I've heard some decent things about The Orville.

Oh, and the Orville doesn't require a subscription to a certain service.
