It's all going black on me!
It just started happening to me today, after the last patch. It happened to a buddy of mine earlier tonight and I wrote it off as being a fluke. But then it happened to me later in a versus match, along with another of my team.
After having a close encounter with one of the special infected, a hunter or boomer maybe, my screen suddenly gets really dark. I can barely see even with the flashlight on. Everything else is fine though, the framerate is stable, the UI is okay, even the silhouettes and name tags of my allies show up plain as day. Even the film grain shader shows up. But it looks as though I'm playing with a cloth bag over my head. If I die or the game changes maps, the view goes back to normal. Even after a time of playing in pitch blackness, the view slowly brightens up and goes back to normal.
No, my LCD is not having problems, all other elements of the game show up perfectly. Yes, the game functions perfectly fine in all other respects. It's not something obvious like turning up the gamma.
Has anyone else been having this problem lately? I heard that setting yourself to IDLE mode and coming back fixes it. I also heard that valve messed up the shaders in relation to the boomer attacks in the last patch.

I'm having the same exact problem. The game will start up nice and bright, then quickly darken to the point I can barely see. Then gradually get darker and darker still.
So far i've installed older drivers, that didn't work.
Ive reinstalled twice, neither did that.
Ive checked Valves "Fix" For it, and that didn't fix anything.
Ive also verified all the data integrity, and it came back perfect.
This seems to be the only game that has trouble with it, the first game I played after installation worked perfectly, afterwords is a completely different story.
Memory (RAM): 2047 MB
CPU Info: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
CPU Speed: 1961.1 MHz
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT
Ive seen people reboot and fix this problem, i've seen others reinstall drivers, fixed it. Im thinking its a problem with the latest game patch, as i've read people who've been exposed to special infected sometimes get the dark screen from just having them in sight, and I didn't have this problem pre-latest patch. Any word on people fixing this?
