    XFire Sounds Too Loud?

I got sick of XFire's sound files being ear piercingly loud in comparison to the rest of my system's sounds, so if you have this same problem, here's a ZIP of the reduced volume WAVs I just finished quickly editing.

    http://chris1.thehouseofchris.net/XFireLowVolume.zip

Just uncompress 'em into yer XFire directory, which should be C:\Program Files\XFire\sounds and they should take effect immediately.

    Thanks! Very good to know.

I personally just have them off, but this is a better way to fix the problem.

Yeah, I got sick of the volume discrepancy between its sounds and the rest of the ambient volume levels. If I have my volume at normal browsing/chatting volumes, Xfire startles me when it goes off. If I have volume at gaming levels, it literally gives me a headache. Geez.

So yeah, I hope this helps y'all.

    Shaderapidx9.dll

    Shaderapidx9.dll Fix:
Error: Left4dead.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.
    Details:AppName: left4dead.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: shaderapidx9.dll
    ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0002df66
This is the error I actually get.

    AppName: left4dead.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: shaderapidx9.dll
    ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0002e0d6

I am quoting the thread that you have above for common fixes and all. The video was deleted and I do not know how to fix this.

I've been playing since it came out. Just recently like two days ago, it just gave me that error. I've tried verifing left 4 dead data, defraging left 4 dead it, scan disk my machine, defraging my machine, reinstalling/updating the game, installing new drivers + direct X. Rolling my drivers back a few updates. I've done everything humanly possible.

How do you fix this problem? This doesn't just affect L4D. It affects HL2, TF2 and DOD:S.

I heard it was something to do with steam cloud but if that was true then offline mode would work with the game. When the main servers were down, I could play but when they went back up I couldn't.

I have a legit version of the game so I know it's not that.(I was reading the other people's thread about steam cloud and shaderrapidx9 so I was trying not to copy any thread due to the rule.)

I've tried other games, Half Life games work just fine. My Red Alert 3 game works just fine and many other high end games.

It shows on my steam game list: Syncing 0% then stops and then tries to load and then crashes. Steam support team has yet to get back to me and it's been four days. Here are my system specs.

    Mainboard : Asus M2N32-SLI DELUXE
Chipset : nVidia nForce 590 SLI
    Processor : AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ @ 2800 MHz
    Physical Memory : 2048 MB (2 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM )
Video Card : Nvidia Corp GeForce 8800 GTS (640 MB)
Hard Disk : WDC (250 GB)
    DVD-Rom Drive : ASUS DVD-E616A3T
Monitor Type : Samsung SyncMaster - 23 inches
Operating System : Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 5.01.2600 Service Pack 2
    DirectX : Version 9.0c (September 2009)

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    EDIT:

I forgot to upload my dxdiag.txt

There are some possible fixes listed on the Steam forums. Have you tried the ones that are listed on the last page of the thread?

Fatal Error - Source Startup - Page 5 - Steam Users' Forums

One post mentions the wmiprvse.exe file being missing. Maybe do a search for this file and make sure you have it??

Also, I see some mention that certain malware infections replace that exe file with an infected one. So, I suppose it is possible that this problem could be virus related?

I dont' know, and I've done those before cause of a google search for the error. Still does not work. I'm thinking I might have to buy a new HD, transfer my music over and then format this HD cause most guides say when it doesn't work format the HD.

Well, that seems a little extreme, but it it works, then you are good to go.

    Good luck!

It is extreme but neither you or I can think of anything else because I've tried every guide but it doesn't work.

The only other solution is to reinstall windows. I've tried to because I have an upgrade home XP off my 98 CD.(Basically I insert it, then put my win 98 CD to prove I own some version of windows.) It kept all my files but it still doesn't work so I don't know.

I think formatting is the best.

    Thanks for your help though.
