Where have ethics gone?

An Iowa state judge has ruled that parents can harvest sperm from their brain-dead son. The purpose is to impregnate the son's fiancee.

I think the judge is whacked. Can you imagine what it would be like to have a child that inherits your personality traits and not be there to empathize with the child? Or to be forced to be a child of a father that was already dead?

This story almost makes me cry. I hope the doctors stick to their morals and violate the court order.

Wow!... That is pretty ridiculous to say the least. I can understand how she loves him so much, but to carry on his jeans to a child that will never know there real father is not right imho. Besides he can't consent, and now im sure if he was alive he would be glad to have kids but we dont know how he really feels(maybe he hates kids hence why they never had any yet). He doesn't get a choice, it forced upon him.

Asianator, you need to keep in mind, it's not just liberals. It's anyone in a position of power, pretty much, that ends up doing whatever the hell they want to do. These things happen because the "...Government, of the people, by the people and for the people..." is not challenged by the people. The people are satisfied with trusting that the government is this honest, fair body of people who do what the people who voted for them in the first place are actually doing what they were elected to do. Which is 99% of the time, NOT what they are doing.

Unfortunately, the news agencies, who most people think will right any wrongs by the government, won't do anything either unless they can get a sensationalist story out of it (which makes them money) or unless they are paid enough money (read many thousands of dollars or more depending on the wealth of the person pushing for it).

If you think about it he was probably going to start a life with her until whatever happened that made him terminally brain dead.

Guys, no matter how disgusting it may be, I have sympathy for them and I believe its a good decision to make.

I have seen so many posts in these forums referring to "hippies" and "liberals" as a source of trouble. I am willing to bet most here would consider me a hippy or a liberal. But I feel like I am a pretty damn stand up American. I love my country, and I respect the position of my countrymen on the other side of the line. We all have access to freedom in this great country, and that is one of the greatest things about being an American.

I have run across SO many posts with attacks on liberals, hippies, etc.. without basis. I have honestly wanted to respond to many posts about political and social topics but I felt my opinion would be flamed by unfounded attacks on my "liberal" point of view. Due to this fear, I do not stretch my wings and be free; I keep my mouth shut (my keys are silent).

As far as the topic of this thread: I think that it's somewhat wierd and disturbed; however it is the natural inclination of an organism to reproduce and replicate it's DNA. I think the dude would want his son/daughter to be born and continue his lineage. I would want my lineage to continue; although I would have reservations about not being there to instill my beliefs and knowledge unto my offspring. It's a pretty tough call for me.
