    Communist sport

So this article just proves that soccer really is a communist sport. Go ahead and take a bribe, but wait, don't let it affect the game. Sounds commy to me.

another idea, but a bit more thought out

hey guys, ive been totally blown away with the amount effort put into l4d, and i can see now that it was definitely worth the wait.. gj l4d team

recently ive decided to put in some effort myself and try to develop some solid content in the form of atleast two maps. Both are based on the survive-against-the-horde-till-rescue-comes idea but basically the the first would take place in a stadium waiting for a helicopter rescue and the second being an indoor shopping mall (didnt see that coming did you?) where one idea is that you're guarding an npc to finish building/repairing some kind of getaway vehicle.

the subtle points to gameplay id like to introduce here revolve around gathering supplies and actually preparing for the horde in a strategic manner, the main idea im going for is that id like to set it up so that you have X amount of time till the horde arrives except in this case the horde is prolly 3 or 4 times larger with usually more then one special infected attacking (including two or more tanks depending on difficulty) and you start by gathering resources in the form of health, weapons, various gas tanks, and possibly ammo as well as shaping the level in a manner as to funnel zombies into a particular path (traps, barricades). during this time you still deal with various infected and maybe a horde or two but the idea is that the players split or pair up at the beginning to accomplish different tasks to ultimately prepare for a massive rush that would last quite awhile by itself.

some new content id like to see being used in this if not through official updates would be...

-more weapons: desert eagle anyone? also grenades and rocket launchers would be interesting as well as more options in the firearm catagory

-the ability to carry more items, possibly even a sub menu allowing you to manage inventory and swap itmes with other characters

-deeper interaction with environment in the form of picking items up and moving them around allowing you to create barricades, if possible maybe incorporate the use of explosives to demolish an entrance or tunnel for example

-its doubtful but would like to see it anyway.. vehicles, but not to be used wildly but rather as a means to help gather items or to block off some path

    now for the bad news....

im familiar with level designing across a few engines but i never really got into it with halflife, it doesnt make any of this any less possible, it would just be time consuming and that wouldnt include having to do models/textures/code which i wouldnt mind doing, it just tacks on that much more time since its not something ive really gotten into either

im gonna start preparing for this soon to get ready for the release of the l4d sdk, i dont think the stadium should take too long, the mall is another story... but i just wanted to get this out there cause im sure theres some other guys out there thinking the same thing and i didnt want to be accused of copying off of others in the future

but im going to do this, i NEED to do this... my bones ache with the thought of more zombie killing

till then... gl hunting the dead
