Universal Health Care
what do you think of it?
I personally think it would be a complete waste of the taxpayers dollars, a huge waste. The last thing we need is for the goverment to get involved more. The goverment already bankrupted the social security idea.
And how much more will we pay every year in taxes? Also what would be the quality of the health care? I don't think the goverment wouldn't be able to increase the quality of health care. Our health care isn't perfect, but i think Universal health care wouldn't be better. When the goverment gets involved, how many times have you seen it become better? The prescription drug idea ended up costing way more money than it was thought out to be.
I say save our money, and keep the goverment out of it.
Just another socialist idea in my mind.

other than national defense, what federal program, in the long run, can be called a great success?
Do you really want bureaucrats in charge of your health care plan? Dealing with my insurance company is hard enough some days. I can just imagine if that was a government organization...Sleep, eat, conquer, meditate, repeat.

Re: Universal Health Care
*sigh* A large problem of the entire medical industry is that they're reactive, not proactive. Doctor's aren't paid to keep you healthy and in shape, they're paid when you get sick or injured and they fix that. I attribute a lot of the odd and overzealous diagnosing that goes on to this kind of shit, a lot of kids who are just bored a lot get slapped with the ADHD label and then prescribed entirely-too-powerful drugs that they don't really need... they just need a ball or a kitty or something. But hey, the doctor and the drug firms get paid so what do they care?
Without changing the medical industry's ways, making it universal just takes this level of service, stretches it even thinner and then attempts to apply it to everybody equally. Much as I like the concept of being able to get medical care without paying for it directly, that's not gonna happen in this country. There's an even simpler problem to consider, though: a large number of our doctors and specialists are damn good at what they do and expect to be paid for their services. And as it stands, it's pulling teeth to get Medicare to pay them already. Require them to file that kind of paperwork for EVERY citizen... no, it won't work.
ETA: clarified "without paying for it" to be "paying for it directly," because somebody will have to pay for it.
