Welcome back Dave. Thanks man, those pics are amazing. I think you made all these city boys who sit in cubicals all day a little jealous.

Farmers (and cops, and firefighters and paramedics and teachers, and soldiers and _______) do't get enough credit for all the hard work they do.

Makes ya wonder if that can of corn you had for dinner last night came from one of your fields. Small world?

Cool Dave. See ya on the server bro.

Ah the differences, yet it is all very much the same.
real men are cash crop farmers, no matter what commodity it is man . We've used trucks and wagons for a LONG time, and we're getting a semi for next year. The main reason is we're one of the oldest farming families on our side of the county, so we have alot of ground close to town. Our farthest field from an elevator is 8 miles, are shortest field from an elevator is a little under 1/4 of a mile....So semi's aren't really needed, but it speed production up, even if you only use it as something to dump on until our driver gets back.

Yea there all 30inch rows, we haven't planted anything in 38" rows since the early 80's man...you get more output with 30" rows. We tried 15" rows in beans but we had alot of problems with white mold and other diseases because of the lack of sunlight on the lower part of the leaf when the canopy was fully grown. So now we do everything in 30" rows. We read that 22" rows are even better, but... a 22" planter is $150,000, a 22" cornhead is over $100,000 so it doesn't seem necessary to us, lol.

Ranger, i love working outdoors at any of my 4 part time jobs that occupy my time in between seasons. Yeah, i didn't go to college and probably never will, but around here manual labor pays an extremely good rate because 90% of the younger kids b*tch and moan about a hard days work, or they leave for college and never return. I worked for the county highway dept. this summer adding shoulders to the roads, putting in guard-rails, etc. It was hard work at times, but when i got a check for an undisclosed amount at $25/hr, it was WELL worth it Hopefully i can play some BF2 with the "group" again this weekend!

Ain't that the truth. I guarantee s3's in better shape and health than my code-writing ass is. *sigh* Y'know, even though I love what I do, to this day I still insist anybody who gets out on their feet and does work like that is a better person than I, and closer to "honest work for an honest man" than I'll ever hit.

I think I know the part of IL yer in, s3, and if it's where I think it is, that's really relaxing and gorgeous countryside to drive through. Back when I owned my Sebring, I'd drive through central IL all the time, going nowhere particular and just enjoying the weather and the drive.

25$ an hour, sign me up, with that kinda money I could commute by plane and still profit (well maybe not...). NH minimum wage can kiss my ass.
I think landscapers and don't get enough credit among the younger workers. My friends get payed a ton (mostly under the table) for less work than I did, weeding and mowing.
    Keep it up bro.

Really, where are you at...maybe we should have an IL get together for TTP at dave n busters or sometin. I'm not too sure i look like im in good physical shape being 6'4 and 275lbs, but i used to spend alot of time in the weight-room during highschool...and while i may not be "toned" by any means at all, i can lift my fair share :P

Dragon and I are up in the NW suburbs of Chicago (I'm about 15 minutes from the D&B in Addison, actually, and Dragon's 20-30 minutes NW of me), and I know another one of the Hobos is an Illinois guy too although he's out west if I remember right. I'm actually at that D&B occasionally to shoot pool with some of my buds from the SW suburbs.

I used to be in shape. Then I had a severe strain happen to my right leg which has gotten worse over the last 9 or so years, then I got a desk job. Yeah, I'm not "huge" but I'm not light either. heh.
