I've got some vidoe card money (around $200) and so I would like some advice on which to choose. I've had my eye on an x800/x850 since before I had any money and have pretty much shunted the 6800s over to the side but now that the next-gen gpus have come out, I've been looking at the 7600. I know bigdog will side with the x800s...and I'm leaning towards those aswell because of the fact that the x800s are 256-bit. I don't really plan on getting vista or whatever so it will probably be better to just get an x800. Any way, I would like some tech advice

I would also suggest a 6600GT. I use it and can run DoD fine on high settings, and Oblivion on medium. Great card for the price, and it's only around 100 bucks now.

man the hell with nvidia buy that shit if you plan on playing doom a lot. When you want a good card that will run a hell of a lot better on the valve/source engine go with the x800 or x850. My x800 works badass
ATI all the way YEAH!!!!!!!!!!

If you don't already have a PCI-E compatible motherboard, you would have to buy a whole new setup, seeing as how you would probably need to buy new RAM, a better processor to go with the motherboard, and of course, the 150+ video card.

    I'm using a 7800GT, I like it.

On the other hand, all the AGP cards that no-one buys anymore because they've all moved up to PCI-Express are still the same price, so you could either spend 150 on an AGP card, or 500+ on the PCI-E Video Card, Motherboard, Processor, and RAM. But if you already have a PCI-E compatible motherboard + all the other necessary stuff, it's all good.

i've got a kickass system already...minus the video card. 2.2 ghz (2 ghz fsb) Athlon64 3500+ 1 GB DDR400 Radeon X200. Yes I do have PCI-E. I have system that I play CSS in at another house and it's AGP. My grandma thought I needed a 7800 because I mentioned it to her once so she got the only AGP 7800 around for me. The sad thing is that the computer totally sucks otherwise so I can only run CSS at 1027x768. What a waste of a 7800. oh well that's still better than what I play on now. I can only run CSS at 800x600 with 30 fps. Thanks for the advice guys. I found an absolutely beautiful x800 512mb for only $130 before rebate. Take a look at this thing.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102684
The only thing I can see that isn't so good is the GDDR2 memory but with 512mb for only $130...jesus. I can put up with the RAM thing. Plus it's 256-bit so +++++ for it.
