thats is a completely uninformed statement. add and adhd are social ailments. it is not any effect on intelligence. as a matter of fact most people with these tend to be above average intelligence.

    Re: Quick Survay

I was caught up in that wave of kids that could perform in school but lacked proper motivation, thus they have ADD/ADHD. For me the diagnosis was total crap. its not that I couldn't focus, it was that I didn't want to. I had simply other things I would rather be doing.

Seems like everyone was on this magic pill craze. "I don't have to take care of my kids any more. I will just sit them in front of the tv and give them a bowl of Ritalin, and all will be dandy!"

Not to discredit the drug, I know many people that actually benefited a lot from it. For the people that actually needed it, it was a godsend. Perhaps the naked are leading the blind here but, it was not right for everyone. This was a huge mistake made by the physicians and parents because they thought they could correct a generation's behavior with a miracle drug.

No, not everyone has a little bit of ADD/ADHD. this logic has no foundation to it and leads to social stigmas being made. (see paragraph above)

    /rant.

that was an interesting poll. I am curious of the outcome myself.

    Re: Quick Survay

TOO Much I can only agree as I have some inlaws and the sorry fucker's answer is "He needs to be on drugs." Just because he is too fucking lazy to be a parent . He has severly fucked up his or what is the oldest son now as the others had moved out long ago, and now is fucking up the youngest to the point where we will never have any of them to my house for the simple reason that they cant be trusted have no ...not even a little bit of respect for anyone, and as Of right now they have never been to our house not even at holidays and we have not even entertained the thought of them dropping by. Now I know this is off subject but Too Much is right the vast majority wants to take the easy way out and "give em some pills" the school wanted me to do that to my son but I said fuck no ( too many side effects) and I am still arguing with them to put a little more effort into helping him but like the vast majority I spoke of earlier, they want to take the easy way out and give failing grades. But ... I have some phone numbers and the State Of Texas has a program or law 504 that states they have to work with the student and By God they are gonna do it .......

If you think about it, it's funny, but being one of those that has lived with this "issue" my entire life, it's really not. It effects all aspects of what I do, but in retrospect, it's kinda made me into who i am as well. I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 6 years old, with an additional diagnosis when I was in high school. I have lived a life on Ritalin and other "controlled substances" and I HATED IT! ADD/ADHD is the worst possible thing ever, truly having it, and having to find ways to "make the best of the situation" is a life mission.

As far as the drugs go, sure they helped, but I had to get rid of them, 1) they make you feel like a robot, like you're not in control and i did NOT like that, 2) They ruined my chances of being a fighter pilot in the Air Force as when I went through my physicals during my collegiate ROTC stint I was diagnose with MVP,which has now been attributed to the length of treatment on amphetamines. Due to this I was told I was eliminated from class selection on flying either Heavies or Fighters, which I am SORELY BITTER ABOUT!

Anyway...the constant forgetting is the most annoying thing. It has taken forever for my wife to understand, she was one of those "nonbelievers" of ADD before she met me. Sure everyone has forgetfulness and attention span limitations, but that's normal. When your life is affected by it and the only noticeable change which is total 180 is achieved by drugs, that's ADD/ADHD. I could go on, but as a person that has lived with this shit for 32 years...i can attest to the severity, the annoyance, the effects on family, job, etc... i need to digitize some of my parents home movies, my parents, used to film me for punishment, say i'd forget to do a "book report", well..they'd make me do 2, to make it up and I'd have to recite it on camera, you can SOOOOOOo see the ADHD in me as a young kid, i can't sit still, I blab on about other shit that isn't even in relation to what i'm being tortured for...my parents would play that for all of my college girl friends and my wife has gotten to see all of the "home movies" and well...what can i say, ....i forgot already...

Side Note: All research on ADHD (which ADD is a subset of, ADD-I, I believe) indicates there is no association with ADHD in any of its forms and a person's IQ.
