Game keeps un-muting my mic
For some reason, when I play either L4D1 or L4D2 lately, as soon as the game launches, it un-checks the mute box on my Windows Sound panel on me. If I don't pull up the Play Control panel and re-mute it, the next time I turn my speakers up, it will howl and feed back.
I checked my audio settings and I have it set to Push To Talk.
Anybody got any idea why that might be happening?*********************************

I've just spent about 10 minutes wondering why I couldn't find the solution to this when I was sure I've posted it... only to eventually realise it was an issue I answered on my clan website... anyway here's a link:

Well, I had thought of that after I posted, so I tried setting that parameter to zero instead of 1, but it didn't help. I have my sound panel on my right hand monitor, and about 5 seconds before the game finishes loading, I can watch the mute check box change. All other sound settings appear to be OK.

And I just tested it again, and I misspoke...L4D1 does NOT do it, L4D2 DOES.

Well, after wading through page after page in the Steam forums, I found what I think is the answer:
voice_mixer_mute 1
using that as a launch option stopped the game from unmuting the mic.
Most of the threads dealt with the reverse of my problem, so I had to google myself to death till I finally stumbled across it.*********************************

yep,
"\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2\config.cfg"
And change the values on these two from zeros to ones.
voice_mixer_mute "1" (To keep the mic muted)
voice_mixer_boost "1" (For the re-enabling of mic boost)
@Silvercyrus: I assume he want his mic muted if he's using desktop speakers to save feeding back
