Yeah, Ron, try living about 10 blocks from the guy. What guy? That lady's dad. Fred Phelps. I lived in Topeka Kansas for a year and those fuckers used to park in front of my house while they went and stood on the street corner with their protest signs saying "God hates Fags", "Thank God for 9/11", "Thank God for Dead Soldiers" and get this shit...I was doing some Christmas shopping just this past December and they were protesting at the corner of 21st and Wanamaker, near the mall and I SWEAR to you they had a sign that said "Fag Santa". The Phelps family is like a cult, they all live in a compound near 12th and Gage in Topeka Kansas. Literally a compound. It has a huge wall that goes around the property and there is a giant American flag hanging upside down flying high over the whole compound. There is a big sign advertising their website, Godhatesamerica.com, and they are literally NUTS. Unfortunately there is nothing anyone can do about it. Fred Phelps was an attorney for many years, until he was disbarred for his bizarre behaivor. All of his children, one of whom was in that video clip, are also attorneys. The way they raise money for their "church" (which is in the basement of his house at the compound) is by protesting events like that and waiting for people to start something, then they sue the shit out of them. It is not a joke, I am speaking from first hand knowledge. I was not sued, however, the guy I sold my business to when I left Kansas was nearly sued. At a stop light, he and his family were all in their car, it was a nice day and he had the window down. One of the Westboro members challenged him out of no where saying "What are you looking at faggot? You wanna start something?" He asked the protestor what the hell he was talking about and they started bickering and lucky for him the light turned green and he was forced to drive off. If the argument would have continued, they would have waited for him to get angry enough to throw a punch or say something that could be viewed as slander and then sued him. They do it all the time. And that is very typical of every protest they have. They just wait for someone to take the bait and then sue them. They have sued the Police department, the government, different churches, basically anyone who questions their "right" to free speech. Several attempts have been made over the years to assasinate Fred Phelps and his family/church, the most recent being in 98 or 99 I believe, when someone planted a home made bomb inside the compound. It went off and caused extensive fire damage, no one was injured and they simply rebuilt. Coincidently, the Topeka Police Department could just never find those responsible for the attack. Hmmmm. They got a lot of publicity by protesting the funerals of American soldiers as shown in the video, and also protesting at funerals of gay and lesbian people as well. There was one funeral in Wyoming several years back of a guy named Matthew Shepard, who was an openly gay college kid that was beat to death and then tied to a fence by two guys who lured him from a bar. Beat to DEATH just for being gay. The Phelps clan showed up and protested the funeral, supporting his death with their "God Hates Fags" and "Matthew is in Hell" signs and other antihomosexual gibberish. Total disregard for the families of these people and just closed minded arrogance that is so far off base, you can't even form an argument to combat it. "Fag Santa" for fuck's sake, how do you argue against that? The Phelps clan protests just about anything. So yes, as sad as it is Ron, the Westboro baptist church is bad fucking news, and one of the main reasons I left my business in Topeka. Imagine seeing that shit every damn day on at least one street corner while going about your daily business.

This woman is retarded. Not because she doesnt approve of war or because she thinks God is judging the nation. I think she's a b*tch because reguardless of what our opinions are, we should respect the people who have and are still laying down their lives so that we can have these discussions. Hell if America never went to war, we could be very well speaking german right now. I dont buy into that "Our soldiers dont want to be there" crap either. I've heard from lots of soldiers (on liberal and conservative media alike) that they dont mind being there. Bush isnt to blame either, it's the politicians involved who are costing the lives of our soldiers. If it wasnt for all this democrat whining bull sh*t we would be out by now and the job would be done. The war isnt with Iraq, its with the american media and the politicians in washington who care too much of what people think. They need to lay the hammer down and do what they gotta do. As far as Iraq goes, It's about damn time those iraquis learn to stand up for themselves. It's their country, they need to start taking some of the responsibility for defending it. Iran can go fornicate themselves, 40000 martyrs, please, I consider that a threat and thats good enough for me to turn that whole place into glass(please ask if you dont understand the reference) I kno I may seem a bit irrational, but Im sick of hearing everyone complain about us being over there too long.
