Gotta give all the TTP Houstonians crap about something.
I will probably never move from Fort Worth, but if I did Austin would be the place. Houston is ok if you don't work in Downtown, or on the opposite side of Downtown from where you live.

Re: Houston..to live..or not to live
I'm from Corpus Christi, the sparkling City by the Sea. We've got the beach, we've got North Padre Island (which comes in 2nd place in Texas Spring Break, right after South Padre Island).
But most of all: We don't have Houston.
Now I'm not from Houston or Dallas so let me sort this out:
Houston has crime, traffic, pollution, U of H in the middle of the ghetto, the 'stros, the ::chuckle:: Texans, good public transit, rude people like NY, nice suburbs. The women are diversified, the big parties go on in Houston, but it has a shitty concert venue.
Dallas has the crime, less traffic, a shit ton less polution, the Dallas Cowboys, a higher cost of living. The women in Dallas are way hotter and there's a better live music scene. The big parties go on in Houston, the baller parties go on in Dallas.
I think of Houston like the asshole of Texas: It's got a real important function to the state (the port), but other than that, it's just filled with a bunch of shit. :9
Don't take offense, I personally would rank Houston below El Paso on my list of cities I'd like to hang out in.

The only thing Houston has on Austin is NASA and pro-sports. Frankly, I think it's going to be a long while before Austin gets any major league sports, but San Antonio Spurs aren't that far away.
Austin has the best nightlife, hands down. And UT? That's a hard school to beat in any aspect.
