Hockey-Great sport, or greatest sport?
I've never watched hockey...until two weeks ago. I love this sport now. With its bone-crushing slams, seemingly random fist fights, and epic displays of skill on the ice, I seriously have found a sport that I may like more than football. ESPN seems to be playing at least a game a day, and I have been watching every single match I can find on television.
Just because of their geographical location, I have been rooting for the San Jose Sharks (I am a Bay Area man myself), and apperantly they are actually doing quite good. :9
So, if you haven't really watched this sport (and if you like sports even remotely), I suggest that you watch one game. I was amazed at these guys' agility on the ice. I remember when I tried ice skating; not pretty.
Hockey ftw!

if hockey was a good game/sport, it wouldn't need or allow fighting to liven up the boringness of it all.
Basketball...no fighting.
NFL....no fighting.
Baseball....no fighting.
Eukanuba Dog Championships....no fighting.
Fighting is a cheap tactic to put butts in the seats, indicating the game itself is utterly boring.
I would say, if they added fighting to soccer....it would have a decent chance to make regular TV.

Baseball is too slow. It's the great American past time for a reason. I can really only watch a baseball game if I'm there drinking beer, eating hot dogs and checking out all the hot chicks. But here in Texas, baseball in the summer (outside) is like cooking in an oven, so no thanks.
The NFL is an awesome game, but think about how slow it is between snaps. "Hut, hut..." All the 350 lbs linemen move at once, then the defense stops the running back for a loss. Let's do it all over again, ad nauseum. *Sigh*
Futbol (Soccer) - Enormously popular everywhere but here. Why? For the same reason why American football can be a little slow. "He passes to the midfielder, who passes back, who passes back, who passes back..."
Dog Championships- all your really hoping for there is that the miniature poodle takes a shit on the judges shoes.
But lets talk about hockey, shall we? Hockey has all the bone crunching, thundering hits of Football (without all the, "he's got turf toe", lets sit him for two months), the frenetic pace of basketball, the big plays of baseball, and the finesse of soccer... without pooping on the judges shoes.
In hockey you have 250 lbs' men sliding around on 1/8 inch blades of steel, trying to obliterate the competition while maintaining their balance and scoring goals.
And the pain? The dedication? The sacrifice? Standing in front of a vulcanized piece of rubber being fired at over 100 miles per hour, on purpose, is suicidal. Hockey players do it all the time, baseball players try and get out of the way.
Quarterbacks are given pink tootoo's and told to slide feet first. Talk about pansy's. Basketball players simply touch another player, and it's called a foul. Lame. The only contact baseball players have with one another is when they pat each others asses. Gay.
Not so in hockey.
Annnnnd it has fighting. That's just icing on the cake, not why people watch. Instead of paying money to watch Floyd Mayweather destroy some poor sap, hockey fans get an inpromtu fight nearly every night.
And all those other sport have fighting too, but when they do it, players get suspended which means you, the fan, are the one that misses out, not the leagues. Maybe a little checked aggression could be good for baseball? Because we all know that when a batter charges the mound, everyone watches.
The only reason the hockey doesn't have better ratings is because it is not TV friendly. It's hard to keep up with the puck on TV. Go to a game, and it's a whole different story. Plus the American, "Well, it's not our sport, so we're gonna piss on it, and whine that our sports are better", type mentality seems to be the standard response. Case in point, how popular is Futbol (Soccer) in the United States? And how popular is it everywhere else in the world? My point exactly.
But don't take my word for it...

Most of these injuries are from the puck, not the fights. And most of these guys, went back on the ice to continue playing... can any other sport say the same? Of course not, they are chumps pussies earning a paycheck.
Hockey for the win.
