Thread: Weirdest place to hear Portal quoted

I work for a really big engineering firm in Orlando... about to transfer to Houston.

I got in touch with my "functional boss" to let him know the status of the transfer. This guy basically handles all the mechanical engineers here... hundreds of employees and supervisors underneath him. He told me congrats, etc, the usual stuff. Then he ends his email "just remember, the cake is a lie."

EDIT: Ok, just found out that one of my friends tipped him off I was into FPS... guess he is too.

What part of Orlando are you in?

Do you do any of your Skydiving in DeLand? My dad lives there and when I take my family down to visit we often go to the airport there and watch the Skydivers.

Sounds like a cool boss at least in secret :2 . Watch out for Houston traffic though. It's a bitch.

I live pretty close to Universal Studios.

I did my first skydives in DeLand when I was 18 and worked there for a summer, before I went off to college. I don't jump there too much anymore, it's honestly not a very "fun" dropzone... but it's one of the safest places to learn to skydive, or to do a tandem, if you're interested in that.

Meh. I don't think it's any worse than Orlando. Houston may be a bigger city, but Orlando is much stupider. And full of tourists looking for Mickey Mouse. My girlfriend's been out there for a few months, and I've been out there two weekends, and we are both ok with the traffic compared with where we lived in Orlando.

Granted, we'll be living down in Webster, and I'll be 5 miles away from my job at the Space Center, and she'll just have to go 10 miles north to Hobby Airport for her job. So we'll stay outside of the loop, on the south side, the whole time. That shouldn't be too bad, right?

If you'll be dealing with NASA people make sure to get to know an engineer (EE I think) named Blake. I can't remember his last name for the life of me, but he's my cousin and one of the coolest and most intelligent people in the world. You'll know him when you see him. He'll probably be the coolest looking person at NASA.

I sometimes randomly spout Portal quotes at work just to see what kinds of reactions I get. Most of the gamers there are console gamers and haven't played Portal, and the non-gamers just look at me like I'm crazy. They're probably right :P

Thats awesome! This is truly the age of Video Games, More people then ever before are playing vids. Young or old, no matter.. But thats funny as shit man, I wish I had a boss who would quote video games. lol
