I never talk like that. I used to when I was first introduced to AIM, but then I drifted away from it and started typing properly. The only time I talk like that is to say "lol" or "brb". Occasionally, I'll be in a situation where I just woke up and I'm so damn tired that I'll give one-worded answers such as "Idk".
I believe it's a bad habit to get into: always typing computer lingo instead of proper English. As a result, more and more kids, perhaps adults but less, are not learning how to spell words correctly and just failing every other word.
I was a teacher's assistant before, and this student spelled "Surveillance" as "Sir vallent". I hardly understood what he was trying to say.

I toatly agree.. something I was just about to say. There is no real need to shorten words and the like.. especially when you're not texting (and even then I don't use it). I did it myself when first using the internet so know how easy a habit it is to get into but I really did forget how to spell properly. I'm constantly riding my 15 yr olds back about it.
I can't understand the new fangled stuff now and don't even try to read it. Along with other irritating stuff Like Putting A Capital Letter On Every Word for eg or the addddeeeeed exxxxxxxxxxxxxtraaaaaaaa leeeeeeeeeeetterrrrrs that a lot of teens use.

That's probably because we spent years typing without using "txt speak" and committed the spelling to muscle memory.
I'm so happy all those old farts trolled me for not begin able to spell back when I first started using the web. Thanks to them I can spell words correctly now and type faster than I can think.
Txt speak is insulting to me, I refuse to respond to something typed like that even on a cell phone. I understand the "lol/brb/bbl/idk" every now and again but typing "u" instead of "you" is just plain lazy.

100% It takes a lot of effort for me to reply to "txt speak" wheather it be on the phone, forums, Facebook etc. Infact, I've seen some bloody awful "txt speak" that I've just given up on trying to translate.
I don't mind messing with someone saying "Brah" or "Bro" at the end of every sentance, but that's between me and that person for 10minutes of laughter for us, no one else.
You know what else fucks me off? When someone apparently makes a word shorter but it ends up being just as long as the correct spelling, just spelt wrong :|

Yea I know what you mean about English being a pain in the ass Kagato. 20 years and I'm still making errors all the time.
Like you I don't care as long as someone is showing effort. Also, a lot of times I type like I speak so you'll see me using "ain't" and double negatives a lot. When you've been living in western NC most of your life you kinda just pick up on the lingo and it bleeds over into your writing.
Appalachian English - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
^ That's the dialect I speak. I'm pretty sure that you'll find it to be an interesting read.
Appalachian English has long been derided as an inferior dialect. Detractors both within and outside of the speaking area mistakenly cite laziness, lack of education, and the region's relative isolation as reasons for the dialect's existence. American writers throughout the 20th century have used the dialect as the chosen speech of uneducated and unsophisticated characters. While research has largely disproven these stereotypes, use of the Appalachian dialect is still often an impediment to educational and social advancement.
