In Washington, a group of Republican lawmakers have introduced the Semper Fi Act of 2008 -- named after the Marine motto -- to rescind more than $2 million of funds for Berkeley and transfer it to the Marine Corps.

"Like most Americans, I really get disturbed when taxpayer money goes to institutions which proceed to take votes, make policy or make statements that really denigrate the military," said Sen. David Vitter, R-Louisiana, a co-sponsor of the bill.

In short, the ciy was protesting the war and voted to remove army recruiters from their campuses. I'd withdraw any military units that weren't necessary and let them get their ass lit up.

fuck em, they should take all the money and funding provided to anything berkley and see those fuckin hippies survive then... :4

If the government doesn't already do it, shouldn't they remove all funding to a college if something like this happens, and what about private research money? I mean Berkeley has to have some contracts with companies working for the military; couldn't and shouldn't those companies pick up and move as well. I know my college wouldn't mind more research money, and there's no way we'll ever drop the ROTC or the Air Force ROTC.

Not many things upset me. I am an understanding sort of person. Although, when I first saw this a few weeks ago, I was so goddamn pissed. I mean, Berkely is trying to throw out the same guys that are fighting, dying, and seeing things that no one should have to so they can have the right to spit on the shoes of these men. Who the fuck do they think they are?

Joining the Marines doesn't have to be about supporting the war. Its not about killing people or blowing shit up. Its about fighting for something that you believe in, and willing to die for that believe. Its about fighting so that the man on the left and right of you may be able to go home and see his family.

The people in Berkely fail to realize this. Yes, it is almost completely liberal in that town, and naturally a lot of people oppose the war. They need to realize, though, that the Marine recruiters aren't there to change their mind about that issue, they are trying to get men and woman to join and make a difference in someone's life. Its about saving, protecting, and ensuring the life of your fellow Americans, any oppressed nation that we can help, and the American constitution.
