Go abroad, work in Europe for a year or two then move back to the US and exchange all the euros you made, you'd be a rich man.

If Bill would have went to college, Windows and Microsoft would not exist, and we would all be trying to figure out how to play on an Apple. No thanks!

I've heard that when Bill Gates goes to speak in China, people scalp tickets for the events.

well it wouldnt be that hard because windows wouldve never existed so we couldnt compare it to anything to make it look hard or easy... catch my drift?

    right-o!!

Some people are just brilliant and some people just have excellent timing. Bill Gates had both go figure. A higher education level at that point in time would not have made any difference in his situation. That does not mean you shouldn't get your degree if you get the chance though.

Us minions *like me* although educated find joy in a job of lesser stature and enjoy time with my family, more than being at meetings or half way accross the world, been there, won't go back. Needless to say, *like right now* I enjoy hearing my kids yelling and screaming/playing and fighting. So gotta go!

No, he just said that he supports allowing a mixture of freeware and payforware. It does strike me as a little strict that in order for something to be considered 'open source' it has to be totally open source through and through. I can't just find a professional package that does some side task that I need done in my program and include it. Even if all the code I wrote is available and open the fact that I included a professional library in my code means I can't claim to be open source. There's no mixture allowed.

Having written this, I think there are a few ways around this problem if you can arrange for a licensing with the developers of the other software. But I'm not sure how it works.

Right after Bill finished my questions the next guy who spoke said something like, "I don't have a question. I represent the association of Chinese students at this university and I just want to praise and adore you for several minutes. People in China love you Mr. Gates, they learn about you before they hear of any other American figure. They hear about you before they eat their first McDonlald's hamburger. ZOMG I love you Mr. Gates!!!" He gave Bill an invitation to come visit China and Beijing, then he ran up to the stage and gave him a gift.

Everything he said was heartfelt and honest, but it was a little much and kind of awkward. The Chinese really must have a thing for Mr. Gates.

    Re: Bill Gates and I

I just got the following email. Apparently we're getting some action from Bill in response to my question.

    From: **************************************
    Date: February 22, 2008 10:41:55 AM CST
    To: CS-Faculty:;
Subject: follow up to Gates' talk
    Reply-To: *******************************

Hi. In the Q&A after Gates' talk, a student or
researcher said he did research using tools that
were not as reliable as professional tools. He
urged Gates to make Microsoft tools (shown in the
demo) available to students. Gates has followed
up through Brad Jensen. We need to track down
that person and find out exactly what the issues
    are.

Does anybody know who that questioner was?

    J
