Thread: Moving to Houston- Area/Apt recommendations?

Hey guys, I'm Punky Brewster (CSS/DoD) or rwaggie (COD4). I got a job out in Houston and will be moving there at the beginning of June. I'm currently looking for an area to live in and am concerned about commuting times. Here's a rundown:

I'll be working at the Greenway Plaza, making some nice bank for a kid fresh outta college.
Single bedroom/bath is all I really need.
I don't mind commuting (I currently commute 1 hr into New Orleans for school and 1 hr back each day), but I would like to limit it to about a 10-15 minute 1-way commute.
I highly value a safe middle to upper-middle class area.
I'm guesstimating I'd be game for around a $800/mo or so lease, I can afford better, but nice is all I need (not luxurious.)
Specific apt recommendations or warnings would be great (such as, "Stay away from Sendera Greenway" type comments."

Mostly, I can do some of the apt. research, but I'd really appreciate comments on what my regional choices will be (such as how far west can I go? Is right past Galleria area too far with traffic? How far north is really realistic?)

Highspeed internet provider recommendations also would be appreciated. I've heard Comcast is the best cable-bet, but better results from smaller DSL-providers.

Thanks for any input guys. Oh, and I'm coming from a suburb outside New Orleans, so I'm pretty laid back and would rather a more laid back area.

I lived here when I 1st moved to Houston. Nice place...in an upscale neighborhood and should fit in your price rand of around 800....+ there are plenty of bithes that live there. I would also check Rice U area since that would be extremely close to you work.
