I just saw a presentation on these bad boys. They actually generate so little heat in the barrel that you can make the guns out of light weight plastic. They also have room for a payload, say a geiger counter (yes they can make them that small), a microphone, any type of incendiary or explosive round, etc. The guy in charge of the project is currently working on getting deployable fins for extra stability. All I can say is hell yeah!
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

I heard about it yesterday during a lecture at a Physics conference I was attending on Friday and Saturday. So no link, :3 , but it looks absolutely awesome :6 . They're also working on getting it mounted on some remote controlled high tech robots.

The professor in charge is pretty much the goto guy for the military in terms of getting them new toys that were once just thought to be lofty dreams and the stuff of science fiction. He is absolutely brilliant.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

No
The bullets the professor is developing have self contained nano-engineered propellant and are already accurate to a high degree. The military is actually in the process of approving them as well. The older generations of commanders just have to be convinced of their usefulness.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
