Re: Are You A Musician?
I'll go I guess.....
Played the piano when I was younger for about 5 years or so....picked up the Trombone in middle school.....did well through out school and was offered full rides to the likes of Berklee and Oberlin..ended up going to Texas Tech and switched from Music to Business to become the corporate whore I am today. Along the way I havr toured across the united states in various orchestras, chamber groups, big bands, combo bands, and a handful of ska and afro/cuban type bands. Yes you can make ok bucks...but its HELL amount of work and there is not insurance. Plus it quickly turns into work...rather than an outlet My influences are from all over the map from classical, opera, jazz....to metal. Right out of school I was still able to gig a lot, but since moving to Houston 4 years ago and the Musician Unions they way there are in this town its too much damn work. I will still play at some open mic shit, or have some buddies over for a beer or 2, but haven't touched my horn in over 4 months...the longest stretch since about 92 or 91...OUCH.

I've been playing accoustic guitar for longer than I like to think. When I was much younger, I used to play one man band gigs in any restaurant that would supply me a good bottle of wine and irish coffees to keep my voice in tune. But things change and, even though I don't play much these days, I play gospel music exclusively now and write quite a lot of original songs.
